Okay here it is, unfortunately I didn't want to spend lots of $$ for large palms so I had to settle with Kings and other palms. (Stuff available at Home Depot etc)
First the flower bed in front. [White Guava, King Palm, Areca Palm, Cat palms, Pygmy Date palms]

Now the backyard.. [ M. Glui Kai, M. Cross, M. Kru, M. Lady Finger, M. Ice Cream, M. Goldfinger, M. Siam Ruby, M. Truly Tiny, M. Kanadrian, M. Saba, M. Basjoo, M. Raja Puri, M. Gran Nain, M. Praying Hands]
Some of my stuff is a little crispy due to the super hot periods of 110F+ or so.

Nevermind, I sat down for a couple hours tonight and got a GOOD plan :) I now have room for the mass influx of bananas. Please delete this thread.
Mass Influx, I like the way you think :woohoonaner:

Care to share your plan?
Sure, I will upload it later. Basically here is my inspiration...

I have a large open lawn, and I am going to do something similar. I'm not going to put a pool and spa like they have, although that would be nice :) Although everything here is mature, I will be making similar islands of tropical foliage, and using King Palms and Bananas for height. Maybe more bird of paradise and grasses like they have from home depot.

Yes, it would be better to rip out everything and just put rows of bananas lol :0497:

Planning it is a waste. You'll have it all worked out, then Tog Tan will come out of the jungle wearing a huge grin and have 2 or 3 more kinds of Kluay Pisang GottaGetMeToo and poof! there goes the plan.
:ha::ha::ha::ha::ha::ha:
Here, I'm "oh look, a patch of grass not doing so well. I should just dig that out and get that Kluay Pisang GottaGetMeToo out of its pot and into the ground."

Any opinions on the outcome? I know it doesn't look like the image above, but they have mature palms and plenty of cash. I merely took the design and did my own thing

Looks GREAT!!! You will have more height as the bananas mature..
Nice walkway, beautiful flowers too(cannas, hibiscus) interdispersed...
Great Job! :) ~Cheryl

Still not enough bananas.
I second that!
It looks Great. I've been looking into design the layout of m back yard I just dont know how to go about it. But thanks for the inspiration I think I will have to work around my newly planted fruit trees.. Everything is very young and small in my yard.
Thanks again, your yard looks great.

LMFAO....is there such a thing as 'enough?' Hell, I question at times whether I have 'too many' for my given space, but I have never felt that I have 'enough.' LOL.
Your yard looks very nice! I wish we could grow plants like that outdoors here! My main concern is that the row of naners is awfully close-spaced. It looks fine now, but I'm guessing it's going to look crowded in a year or so. Right now, the only thing I can say is that if feels like it is lacking a centerpiece. The plants look great, it's framed nicely with the pencil cypress (which I've always been a big fan of!) and has a nice organic flow to it....but you need something stunning that catches your attention. Have you considered a small water feature? Not a pool, but maybe a fountain of some sort. Just a thought.

Thanks!! Yes some of them are going to be crowded. But I guess I would rather have too many bananas than not enough haha. Actually yes I do plan to put a large Koi pond in next year with a waterfall and stuff. My walkway is going to lead to the pond area.

The yard looks very nice - from what I could see. Those pics are twice the size of my screen...hard to view.

Very nice design! I lived in Sacramento and Davis for 10 years. It gets hot up there. Water features are always nice to see and hear. I think some tikis would be cool. Home Depot has them as well. I would also add some lighting now before your jungle grows. Keep us posted on the progress.

I dig it! Good work. I'm in the same boat. Trying to plan it all out but things keep changing. Well done. Like the rock path a lot.-Nate

LOL, Jon thinks you need more bananas but, in our climate, that means lots of brown dead-looking plants in winter. You're wise to cover your bases with some other things. Looks nice!

Yep, usually there is 1 or 2 nights a winter that can do some major damage to tender stuff. (so heavy protection is needed) But that's all it takes. Although 2 or 3 winters ago, my neighborhood was a Zone 10 the whole season. Nice to get spoiled once in a while :D Thank goodness living in a Zone9B+, it's not enough to kill stuff like Majesty, Cat, King palms etc. I love my palms as much as the nanners! Although if we get a 25 year freeze, I might be crying I guess
But harvey, I lost some bananas last year not to freezing temps but to rot. (late february or so) Constant cold rain just made them turn brown and croak.... So this winter I'm thinking maybe keeping them more dry with plastic wrap or something. Or maybe buy more Ice Creams. Are those things tough or what? They never did stop growing through the winter!

Yeah, I'll also be spraying all (except maybe a few "control" bananas with anti-stress 550 before the first frost this winter to see if that helps much like they claim.
