Has anyone had any success/experience with germinating Heleconias? They are relatives of bananas and just as hard to germinate.

Hi James, the only heliconia I ever germinated is the Strelitzia juncea, the Leafless Bird of Paradise. This is a cool looking plant. Just petiole, no leaf! Well, they are like...'naner seeds! They pop up after a while. Give it a shot! :ha:

I have never actively tried to germinate them - I just throw them in the ground and in a couple of months little plants come up. Good luck!

Funny thing in M'sia, I don't think the people realise that heliconia can be grown from sds cos it very common here. The Psittacorum hybrids are outside most of the houses as a landscape plant and they grow like crazy. No one seems to water or care for them. :ha:
