We were fortunate enough to visit the Marie Selby Gardens in Sarasota as well as the Fairchild Gardens in Miami in November and I'm so jealous of you all being able to grow such awesome plants!!! I'm ready to move to a more tropical area.

I love Fairchild gardens. Just a bit of paradise unexpected in Miami.

Florida FTW!!

Only problem I really have, some of the stuff I want to grow does not do well in Zone9+, Japanese Maple's, Apples, Pears, and I have a heck of a time with melons they always seem to rott off the vine.

For melons, try Ambrosia. There are plenty of apples, pears, etc. that do well in 9+. See http://www.plantsthatproduce.com/guides/ for great tasting low chill fruits.

I miss peonies.

Not everywhere. :( Fairchild is south (and coastal), Selby is right on the water. They have very tropical climates. Here in the mountains :) of central FL, we get hard frosts. Not much green in the yard here. :(

I even did my part to foil Murphy -- warm sweaters in the car and at work. No joy.

Adrift is right in the FL mountains (sandhill habitat to an ecologist) the freezes are hard. I used to grow citrus up there, worked with watermelons, and in the 80s saw snow twice. I live in zone 10 now where I grow many of the tropical fruits you saw at Fairchild. Miami is alot warmer than the rest of the state except the Keys. I'm pleased you like our state, and one reason why I'm still here!

Good growing!
