My banana plant had a hard frost so I cut it down to about 4 inches way from the soil (was 4 feet tall before). Its about 4 feet tall again with several new leaves. Will it ever bloom? And also anyone know a good company to buy ready-to-bloom banana plants from? Thanx.

A number of items are needed to help you.

What kind of banan do you have?
Where are you located?
What kind of site is the banan planted in?

Finally, are you committed to provide the food and water needed to produce a bloom?

Let us know, all are ready to help.

Dwarf Orinoco
I Live in Illinois.
Its planted in a 3-5 gallon pot
Its currently near a large window and gets about 5-7 hours of indirect sun.
(in the summer outside in full sun)

And yes if I have instructions I am 150% completely dedicated for it too bloom.

And note (For some reason I have some gnats in the soil so please let me know if this is an issue)

I'll chime in and say I have for example a Dwarf Namwa, 30 gallon pot, outdoors from May through October. Indoors rest of year with 400 watt metal halide along with plenty of ambient sun(if it ever shines again!). So far temps at mid level(colder on floor) have been from 70-78 degrees and the coldest(when it got to 4 below 0F outdoors was about 65. No problem with water and fertilizer........any chance? The reason for my recent pessimism is because I just toured a multi million dollar private greenhouse with seemingly perfect conditions including the high humidity I find difficult to provide. They have had no luck producing flowers although I did not get to ask about other cultural conditions.

It has been my experience over time that most plants, including bananas prefer to be in the ground and outside.

Given your limitations, this may be a bit problematic. There are a large number of folks here who live with these same limitations and can provide good and specific instructions/guidance on getting a bloom.

My guidance is to move it outside as soon as you can this spring into a sunny place, plant it where it has access to water, mulch it with barn sweepings, and hope for the best. Your pot is too small for the corm and roots. If you can't put it in the ground, get as large a pot as possible. Remember, once it blooms, the mother will perish but there should be pups that you can grow.

Hopefully, other will have more specific regional direction for you.

The gnats are typical, probably living in the soil. They should go away once it is outside.

I wish you good growing.

well is it possible that someone who does live with the same conditions I do could give me some pointers on how to get this banana plant to bloom?
