I've joined your group in the hopes that you can help me with my banana plant. It is about 6' tall and was given to me by a good friend at the end of the summer when it was time to bring plants inside here in New England. The plant settled in well and put out a new leaf fairly soon. But...it has only partially unfurled and seems to be stuck toward the tip. This has been true for weeks. What does it mean? What should I do? Thanks for any help you can offer.

The Dwarf Cavendish plants I brought in are growing very slow. I think its all normal. Depending on the temp in the home and how much light it gets it can all but stop growing. Since it is not growing too much you have to be careful you don't over water. Welcome to the forum. I'm not one but there really are experts here. I'm sure they will chime in and help you pull them through winter. Got any pictures? Do you know what type you have?

No worries, it will probably grow out of this condition, just let it be for now. Welcome to Bananas!

P Mace, Welcome to the Org. Where are you located? I have Dwarf Cavs. here in zone 5, they have been inside since October, Almost no growth since that point, this is my second winter with this pot of plants, it gets kind of ratty looking by the end of winter, but rebounds well in the spring/summer, careful with the watering if it's not growing as usual with warm temps and good sun. To much water can cause the corm to rot and the plant won't come back! best wishes! :bananas_b

Welcome aboard! Don't worry about that leaf - even in the tropics DCs do that occasionally.

Welcome! I have a dbl mahoi that has a leaf unfurling for almost 3 months now! It is in a cool room with little direct light. And, a big IC in warmer room with more sun & it's starting its 5th leaf since Oct. Don't worry, Spring is around the corner!
Welcome P Mace. When you get a chance check out some of the old posts. Since you're in New England maybe start with some of the Cold Hardy threads. Be sure to check out the long running "Time to put the bananas to sleep for the winter". You'll see an alternative to trying to keep them(slowly) growing through the winter and help you feel a bit better about what you're doing now. Good luck with the bananas.
