How do I know if I have a banana that is sick? I have a Bordelon. The leaves emerge fine and appear healthy. Then.... the edges begin turning brown and/or yellowing and then eventually turning brown/gray. I didn't amend the soil when I planted them.

What to do???

I don't have my digital camera at moment as it is loaned to a friend and my cellphone camera isn;t great.

Thanks, Cliff

Do I have to worry about my heliconia now? Will they get it?

It COULD be the cold you all had there last week. Is it a continuous problem?

A cell phone camera picture would help even if slightly blurry or fuzzy.

Thanks Taylor. I will take a pic tomorrow when the sun is up.

The planting media is made of sand mostly. I didn't amend like I usually do. I usually use alot of manure and compost and back fill with potting soil.

Back in the rainy season the leaves seemed ok then during a period of no rain after a few days the signs started.

I have a dwarf Cavendish and Basjoo and an Ice Cream...all looking well compared to the Bordelon.
Go figure.

The picture tomorrow should help a bit. It could also be that you need to amend it, because sand doesn't hold nutrients as well as other soils. Or it could be too strong of sun....many possibilities!

As far as the sun issue...it is part sun..shifting all day and some of the bordelon dont get sun at all just bright light...

cell phone pic to come...tomorrow day :bed:

When you have the pic from your gallery opened up there are three boxes under it, the one that says "Code for bulletin boards" the box next to it has a url address and the rest of the info, put your cursor over that and click once, to highlite it, then right click the mouse and a window pops up, click "copy" then, you can paste it in the desired post, you can check to see if did it right by previewing the post before you submit and the pic will show up in the post! Glad to be of some help, actually my wife had to show me how last year :ha: By the looks of it, looks like some cold damage, should be fine as temps warm up!! :bananas_b
