I saw this banana while on a recent trip to the Big Island and was wanting to know what type of red it is?

Properly Musa dasycarpa, but you will find lots of information on this plant if you search for the name "Musa velutina".
Did you by chance see these at Akaka Falls?

The color is pretty cool, I bet in person the pink is brighter then the camera can really grab.

Musa dasycarpa is pretty easy to come by. Several members here grow it. I grow it ,but my clump is still fairly small. I owe one to a local member here in the Houston area or else I'd be glad to help you out. Put an add in the classified section and I'm sure you'll be able to land one.
Mike, if you see this, PM me in the spring and I'll make sure you get a pup to replace the one you lost last year.
I grow and sell this variety. I have several large ones in the greenhouse right now that are fruiting. My original Velutina was the first banana plant to bear fruit for me. That was many many years ago and I can still remember how excited I was. Those for sale are the descendants from that original plant. I think I just made myself feel old, lol.
