Robby, stick it back into the soil and cover it with vermiculite. It may just surprise you. No water. Try it, I had one come back from the dead this way.

You can get it at Home Depot or most nursery stores. It is a naturally occurring mineral that will protect the rotting corm from fungus gnats, etc. yet is easy for new growth to push through.
It's cheap, too.

The cheapest, cold hardiest, most common, and edible banana is the Dwarf Orinoco. Greenhousebusiness.com, Going bananas, Banana Tree, Stokes, Encanto Farms, Wellspring Gardens, Sandy0225(Northern Tropics (http://www.northerntropics.com)), and occassionally at local nurseries. And of course, from some of our members here.
The most expensive is the California Gold, with California Hardy a close second. Keep an eye on eBay, or postings by our members here for these two.

Robby, never give up until there is no more corm! 'Naners are tougher then you think. All the best.:drum:

Try cutting your banana corm in half, and place both halves, cut side down on top of some very lightly moistened seedstarting type sterile mix. If it has any life left in it at all, it'll try to grow then. You could dip it in bleach water first if you're concerned about rot.
In my opinion, the easiest one that can fruit that I've grown in the house has been Ice cream. It goes through winter great. Unfortunately, it gets really tall and you have to keep "chopping and dropping" it.
Orinoco is supposed to be one of the best for storing dormant, that being said, I always kill mine trying to store them that way. I don't know why! There is a guy here in town that has great success with that, and I get them off him, and I store them just the same and his lives and mine rots. No matter where I put them....
