I'd like to know if there's a way to stop the movement in these stupid action icons...sorry, I can't think of any other description. All they do is distract my eyes from reading the message text. Hopefully there is a way to shut them off, at least in the windows I'm watching.

Mash your Esc key, its at the top left of your keyboard. That will stop the animations.

If that still does provide you with a pleasant browsing experience, we can do another thing. Do this at your own risk though, if you screw up your computer I am not to blame!
Type "about:config" in your address bar (without the quotes) then hit enter.
Type "image.animation_mode" in the filter.
Double click the value to change it.
These are your options to place as the value:
"none" (animated images will never play)
"once" (animated images will play once)
"normal" (default) (animated images will play as normal)

Masking tape. I'd use the blue painters tape. It would leave less adhesive on the screen.

Thanks for the suggestion...but unchecking "images" didn't work. I've tried logging in and out but those figures are still jumping around.

True, unchecking "Show Images" and clicking "Save Changes" has no effect.

Another problem is that we are all very warped and use the moving icons to as a form of communication.

Sorry for the false information regarding the "Show images" setting.

What you should do then is just mash your Esc key, its at the top left of your keyboard. That will stop the animations.

If that still does provide you with a pleasant browsing experience, we can do another thing. Do this at your own risk though, if you screw up your computer I am not to blame!

I have edited my post above with the proper instructions.

ive made this point before.....every where there is an icon on your screen..take a black marker and color it out on the screen. that should take care of the bouncing icons. lol.

I didn't have a chance to try the ESC key because I found another way. I'm using Firefox and I right clicked and chose the line that said something about blocking images. That worked perfectly, the icons disappeared. It probably means that all images are blocked (including banana plants), so I'll try the ESC key next time it's an issue. I don't mind the icons, it's just the movement that bothers me.

Mediahound, I also went into about:config and changed image_animation_mode to once just to see what that would be like. I don't understand why you'd think that could screw up the entire computer, at worse it might affect Firefox. But I've changed settings in there before with no problem. Anyway, thanks for the help, it's good to know about that setting.
