Hey Gang,

It's been a number of months since I've posted anything here. It has been cold in Central Texas and all my banana tree have taken a hit. I have left them to the most part to the elements. On a few of my most favored ones I placed a good layer of mulch/ compost around them. Others in pots are probably dead.

I still have several large compost piles which I no longer feed. In a way I have moved on to old hobbies which have taken much of my time. So these piles and several unopened bags of coffee and 5-gallon buckets remain in the back yard.

Anyhow, I guess what I'm getting around to is when should I chop into my trees/ plants? In my mind I'll wait tell it gets warm in the Spring, but I've noticed a neighbor across the street who has bananas has gone ahead and chopped at his.

Happy New Years All,:bananas_b

I wouldn't chop them at all. Just let them do their own thing this spring.

Hey damalese, thanks for wondering about me. Yes, I agree the bananas are toast for now. Hopefully, come spring they'll leap out there skins.:ha: Time we'll tell!

From my experience, your neighbor may have had a gentle suggestion from his wife or significant other that he "at least chop those ugly damn things off so our yard doesn't look like a winter cornfield".

Cheers,

Ed

Yes, Ed, I think your right. I know mine are not the most attractive thing in the landscape now. Even the grass looks pretty bad.:ha:

And the neighbors across the street are pretty tidy with there yard. By that I mean lawn mowing and leaf raking yard wise.:bananas_b

All the Best,

Hey Man!

Long time no hear! Yes, it seems most everything everything has come back really well after a fairly mild winter. I did loose a Saba I had got from you and I think the Praying Hands. I guess where I had planted them just stayed to cold and wet during the winter.

I'm sure yours are well ahead of mine. You being way down in Florida and all. But I am happy with their progress thus far. They have been happily soaking up water and nutrients and are growing like weeds.

Hello Dean,

Great hearing from you as well!!

Bummer about the Saba and PH...yes cold and wet is bad for bananas (maybe if you plant them in a raised bed for better drainage and cover them up a little more you can squeak by next time).

The last we saw on your Ice Cream it seemed to be coming back....

Take care,

Chris
