It's snowed on several of my Vegas trips over the last six years. It never stuck but,not being from there, I thought it was a regular occurance. :P

Feels pretty cool here in NorCal as well. I thought a couple of times this week that we might get snow. It snowed once around here about 35-40 years ago but it melted before I got out of school! :(
Merry Christmas,
Harvey
This has been a strange year Pauly, it seems out west you all are having record snows and I've only had one small storm with a couple of inches. We are waiting for a 5-8" blast today. Here though it tends to stay on the ground a lot longer. I haven't paid as much attention through the years to weather in all different parts of the country like I am now but, in Aurora Colorado in January years ago , there was about 4" of snow one day......the streets weren't even plowed and the next day was 70 degrees. Is this kind of how it is in your area?

There was snow on the perimeter volcanoes (which are normally bare) this morning, which is something that has happened only twice before in the 500+ year recorded history of this city. I never thought I'd say this, but it's freaking chilly here in Ecuador!

yes its stacking up to be a long wet winter here in the south west and yes it snows up in the higher elevations of mount Charleston all the time its at 11000 ft but down here in the valley we are between 2100 and 3400 ft respectively so snow is a rarity the last meager snow was in 1999 and that was 3 or 4 inches i don't remember the exact amount

I was shocked to hear about snow in Vegas! And, I think California too. Most of the country is snowing! This is global warming!!!???
We broke a record here with over 33 inches so far just this month. Fri I dug 2 ft of snow away from my car to get it out. Tonight we just got 4 more inches & now temps will drop with wind chills below zero & very gusty winds to make big drifts. Lots of ppl stuck but everyone helps everyone dig out. My neighbors with snow blowers take turns & go up the block so I am lucky with not shoveling so much in front sidewalk... whew! It will snow every day thru next weekend except for Christmas day---a day to relax!
Sure looks pretty out there, everything is so white.

Hey, Patty, I think you should ask for a "refund" as we have been sold a theory by politicians and mainstream media. Not all scientists support this theory, including some very prominent ones. This site is a political one but has some pretty interesting facts: .: U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works :: Minority Page :. Cool in California. :)

I'm dreaming of a green Christmas
One free of shovel-loads of snow!
Where the nanner-leaves glisten
And children listen
To hear the fire-crackers blow.....

My bananas mostly have black leaves now (but fruit is hanging on and bagged, to be picked any day), so I wouldn't mind some snow. It did snow here about 35-40 years ago but it was melted by the time I got out of school. There are forecast periods over the next few days where snow is possible, but not likely. :(
My Ae Ae are cozy in my greenhouse, fortunately. :)

Lorax, that was good...too funny!
Harvey, I'd gladly send you some snow. Glad your fruit is hanging on even though the leaves are black.
I think I saw a guy on crack in the store parking lot. He was wearing tennis shoes & socks, bare legs w/ baggy shorts, light jacket, no gloves & no hat! Gotta be crack!
I had my heavy long undies on & layers of clothes with hood up & insulated boots & could still feel the cold on my legs. Guess I'm just a wee wee when we get wind chills of almost 40 below 0. That is so cold, that when you breath in deeply your lungs flash freeze & they stick for a moment. Scary.
Never got my CHESTNUTS...they were 'only' at a different pick & save. Tomorrow.

I'm so glad I don't live in Northern Canada anymore. It was worth my friends calling me a nutcase to escape the windchills...

Patty, the shipping for that snow would be a killer, but thanks for the offer. A friend from Minnesota was suggesting I come visit the winter wonderland there, as if that is supposed to be a complimentary term. I'm debating telling him that some of us think of it in terms of "I wonder how anyone can live in that land???!!!!" LOL
Good luck on your chestnut expedition!
Not all of my banana leaves are black but most are pretty dark. Our frost hasn't been that heavy but we did get down to about 27F the other night. I think that's probably enough to end any growth on my nanners!

We are having a heat wave ---it's in low 20's today & no wind. We just got another 5 inches this morning & 5-7 inches on the way tonight. Yesterday was -2 but felt warm without that nasty wind. We got total 36 inches just this month -so far.

Gonna be 46 degrees saturday with rain, I'm curious as to what the end of my driveway is going to be like, the snow is piled 6 feet high at the curb and 30 inches along the side of the drive, This has been one wacky Dec. yesterdays high was 3 degrees Below Zero with a windchill of 35 below, today its been in the low twenties and we're looking for another 4-6 inches of snow overnight, even the kids don't like it anymore. Scot, I think you picked the right year to move to nevada, as winter 08 in the Rockford area has been a pain in the shoveler, 4 months till spring, Think I'll have another BEER, :bananas_b

That's pretty bad when the kids are sick of it! You say rain on Saturday Bill? That will for sure make a mess. It will melt down some of the snow & then it'll all freeze. Thank God it'll be on Sat. when most ppl are off work.
The only good thing about rain is maybe I'll find my keys in the snow. I did something real stupid today, like my key ring fell off my finger somewhere between my steps and front of house. I had gloves on so didn't feel it. If they are in front & someone finds them, they can hit the alarm remote & find my car & then steal it. With 5 keys on it, it weighs enough to sink in some. I looked everywhere... I'm so bummed out. I'm gonna have a beer too!

maybe we can ice skate here next week, its now -1,5 but next week a little colder
around 50 years ago, it was normal to ice skate every winter but the last years it became more rare, last year it was also great weather with enough ice, like this:

I hope this year again.
btw, i forgot my siamensis, it stood the whole night outside but its now safe inside, i hope it isnt damaged too much:)

I believe he means -1.5°C (34.7°F). I don't know when they started using "," for what we still use as "." (dot) to segregate the fraction from the whole number/ what we call the decimal point. I think that even after they started calling "Centigrade", "Celcius", they were still using the decimal point, as opposed to the comma. Now, even in their currency, they use the comma for the fraction part. I'm probably one of the few people that still refer to the metric unit of temperature as Centigrade, most of the time.

Chong, that crazy weather up in your part of the country must have resulted in the math error; you subtracted the 2.7°F instead of added it. Daen's temperature was 29.3°F. Yeah, I remember how the commas confused me when I first traveled to Europe in 2001 also.

My mistake, Harvey. I left out the (-) in the formula when I was calculating. Thanks for the correction. Although it was just in haste, and not the weather. The weather here hasn't really bothered me, particularly, after I was able to get a set of studded snow tires for my daughter's Jeep last Monday, albeit from 30 miles away. They were the only ones that had any winter tires in the area. Even before that, the all weather tires that it had on were doing fine. I was just worried about my daughter having to pick up my son from work at 2:30AM by herself and we live on a hillside.

Keep up the good work every one
