Well the temps in the bay area are going to be very un seasonly cold.

I planted my first bananas trees this summer and was amazed at how fast they grow. They have become my obsession i hate to see them suffer these up coming cold days. I hope they survive to see better days!

Your Ensete Maureliis are absolutely gorgeous. I only hope that someday mine will be as nice as yours.

That area hit about 28-31F last night so not much you can do but wrap them and hope that they turn out ok. With your varieties, even wrapped it is possible that they will suffer big damage but they will come out so hold hope!

Big damage happened all of the leafs are toast looks like they melted......
It just really sucks to see them grow so fast and strong and then have a frost take them all away. They were all to big to really do any thing to protect them. 12/18 ft

I live in the Sac area and last night was the first night to reach freezing. And reach freezing it did. WOW! Nothing to do now except today is not warming up and we could be in for a repeat. You could always cut off the dead leafs, and bring it into the garage. Or wrap it for tonight. I wouldn't leave it unprotected again tonight.

Update: Supposed to be around 32F tonight here so you should be fine. Sucks! Only takes one night to ruin it all.

Been there done that. Sorry dude! You will now have some ugly plants til late spring after they have a chance to grow some new leaves.

I'm just hoping we don't get that here in So Cal Again this year. I have 9 bunches of fruit hanging right now.

We had 6 giant Ensete Maureliis for sale at Lowes on Wednesday. Had them sitting out front since summer. I told them you better bring them in tonight because it's going to get COLD.. Of course they didn't listen :( feel sorry for them.

That night was our only freeze event so far this year and looks to be the only one in December. How can ONE night cause so much anguish?

any thoughts on if i should cut of all of the leaves now or wait until spring?

The green ones are going to be tuff to do as i let the pups stay attached so there are about 8/10 that will need trimming in one clump....I was going for the natural jungle effect......I wont even send pictures of what they look like today...Looks like all of the dames is just to the leafs

Bud,

I say if it looks that BAD just trim it. Those leafs won't do anything for the plant now. But if any have some green (although ugly) just leave it.

Really too bad............. Next week is starting a long stretch of warm wether/storms. ONE night screwed us all. That's the way it goes I guess.
