Anyone know of any Banana newsletters or Magazines out there? Maybe Bananas.org should start one? Anyone out there with Magazine experience?

Good point! You got me! But I do enjoy getting a glossy monthly magazine that I can skim through while sipping a cocktail siiting in my little patch of paradise....

Sure thing. It has been mentioned here and there over the years here on the forum. Glad to see it brought up again ;)

Jarred, is a magazine something you'd seriously consider? I do think it's a great idea but probably a whooole lot of work to do. That being said, I'd be willing to help contribute articles and photos if you ever decide to do this. You know, in your spare time!

I'd be more than willing, as I said on PM, to do the graphic layout etc. and have it printed at the cheaper Ecuadorian rates. We'd need to figure out how many people were interested in subscribing, though. I'd suggest it be something like "Bananas Quarterly" so that 4 issues a year would be the cap. Magazines are tremendously high-work things to design.

I would be interested in a subscription.

In this so called cyber world, a magazine still stands out as no one can be on the net all the time. No matter how much time I spend on the net, I still love my mags and take them with me when I travel to keep me company and to share them.
I agree with Lorax on a Quarterly. Jarred, if this takes off, I am sure bananas.org will be go even further. I support this idea fully and volunteer to be your contributor from the Far East. :drum:

For what it's worth I'd subscribe to any banana publication in a heartbeat. There's a ready supply of contributors here already. Lounging around with a magazine and possibly a cool drink in what's going to be my"plantation" sounds good right now, I just got done shoveling snow since 5 am.

Thanks a lot you guys. I'm really happy to see this taking more and more shape as time goes by. I think either bi-monthly or even quarterly would be good at first to get a feel for it.
And I appreciate the help with this, I know that with the upcoming birth of my child I will be, let's just say, slightly busy.

We would have a special area here on the site for authors, photographers, illustrators, and project managers to collaborate.
At any time, even years from now, anyone reading who wants to contribute please either post on this thread or send me a PM so I can add you to the realm to collaborate with us.
:volleyballnaner:

One thread I could find where having a print journal was discussed a little bit was here:
http://www.bananas.org/f5/hey-jarred-3893.html

I will setup the area now, nobody will be able to read the posts inside unless they are specifically part of the production crew. So if anyone reading really wants to be a part of making this happen, please just let me know and I will setup your access. Those that expressed interest already, I already know to add you.

Thanks again!

I know, I forgot the space between, "A", and, "Journal", but you get the idea.

I found something called, "Create a Magazine", on another site, but thought it was easier to do in (the program ) Paint.

Great idea indeed! I have a feeling it would be something like the Southeastern Palm Society's journals Home Page (http://www.sepalms.org) . They produce them 4 times a year but more often would be great. I'm a member of SPS and would also be interested in any banana publication that is created.

Hi Jarred
and all banana growers

I think your idea are exceptional and very amazing, but you would consider the difficulties in edition, reading evaluation and correction of proofs, quality of picures etc; also if there are people from the forum to contact with scientific reserches or similar for more specific articles (like biology, reproduction, wheather, soil, diseases and many other topics about banana´s world)

my idea was that one initial approach may be only a semestral magazine in the first year, and when you know the people that help you with the magazine, suscriptions, acceptation etc, you can evalute the possibility to increse three issues per year or quartely

if you need help, email me, but remember that my main difficult are related with the language (my english is poor and with grammatical errors)

best regards
Carlos FV

Evaluation and correction of proofs, picture quality, and edition are not problems for us. I speak as the managing editor of the magazine, and also as a professional graphic designer and layout artist. Other members of the magazine group have contacts within the scientific community in order to secure academic papers for publishing alongside member-contributed content, and a number of our contributors are professional horticulturists and field researchers. So we're not terribly concerned with content or issue length (with the current slate of submitted articles, we run to 41 pages.) At the moment, the main problem is advertisers.

Hi Jarred, Lorax (Lorax your spanish are very well) and other members
may be a good idea that I translate some articles from english to spanish
