:woohoonaner: I am a very happy man today! I just recieved 96 'naner suckers of 41 Varieties from my pals in Thailand.

Of these;
36 are food cultivars(yummy, 'naner buffet later)
7 Variegated - 2 ea of Var Thai Gold and Musa balbisiana, 1 Kluay Nam Wah Dwarf and 2 Ae Ae (a present from my die hard pal)
12 Siam Ruby (a present again from another mad chap)
I was a little worried they couldn't be shipped out because of the political crisis there, but they made it.
I bought the cultivars from a research station in Bkk. I still have 42 Varieties outstanding as the pups are not ready for removal yet.

How much did I spend? Only about usd$ 390! My friends got the Variegated stuff cheap, like $29 for each one (except the Nam Wah Swarf which was $90).:ha:
So the day after tomorrow I will have a happy:ha: time planting them at my nursery with my crazy partner.
Cheers:goteam:

Yo Bob!
That's me Man! Cgrs for 'naners...good trade!:ha:
I think the Hom Thong is 2nd rated in taste, maybe I can figure out something better for you. Just to tickle you a little; here's the actual list of the cultivars I got;
Thong Ma-eang
Tumok
Nark Daeng
Nam Wah Ubon (Yellow)
Nam Wah Dam (Black)
Nam Wah Ngern (Silver)
Nam Wah Dwarf
Lep Chang Gud
Hom Jampa
Thep Ros
NumTai
Hin
Num
Kai Pratabong
Wan
Teeb
Roi Wee (1,000 Fingers)
Kai Thong Ngaey
Teeb Yai
Num Lek
Khom
Sam Duan
Hom Thong
KAi
Neu Mua Nang
Hom Thong Short Fruit
Langka
Som Chai-yapoon
Neu Nang Rum
Leb Mua Nang Hairy
Thep Phanoom (Praying Hands)
Daeng Lek
Mali Ong
Num Noom
Neu Cherekeh (Croc fingers)
Karaboo

Can you imagine, I still have 50+ varieties coming! I am getting a lil impatient really.
Thailand is quite big and the the people there like variety in any product, so I guess this is how the cultivars there evolved to suit the taste of the people from different provinces.
The research station has 280+ assessions and they narrowed down to about 90 for me in terms of difference in the taste.
I really hope to see you in M'sia one day Bob and we will have great fun!!:ha::ha::ha::drum:

Awesome! You'll need time for your back to rest before the other 50 come in!

Yo Tog,
All I can do is drool uncontrollably! When you get to pup season, be sure to keep me on the permanent list. We can trade some rarer bananas to fill in each others list. With all of those bananas, you will probably be visible from space on Google Earth!!!

Yo Scot,
Pups are not a problem if you are interested when the time comes. The only thing is getting the right paperwork done. Shucks, I mean this is a share-share hobby , rite?
I am just lucky to have good friends who help me get them, so why not let others benefit too! Scot, you are on!:ha:

That has got to be the best Xmas prezzie ever. You have got me/us green with envy. Variegated ones too, What could be better.

Good luck with them and keep us posted on their growth with plenty of pictures.
