Hi,

I would love to plant a banana plant here in Tulsa but I don't know how it would survive, what type to seek out to plant or what to do. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

You can grow bananas in Tulsa, just require more attention than growing them in the tropics. Since OK tends to have lots of tornadoes, i would recommend a dwarf variety in a sheltered location. Something like Dwarf Brazilian or Dwarf Orinoco, Dwarf Cavendish or Raja puri are many peoples favorite edibles.

If you want them to bear fruit, best to have them in a greenhouse or be able to provide some winter protection if they are in the ground.

There are many ideas throughout this board, just do a little searching and you will find your answers.

Welcome to Bananas!

Welcome aboard! Scot summed it up pretty well for ya!
Raja Puri is probably an excellent choice for you, they hold up very well in the wind, and taste great as well.

maybe Basjoo and Musella will survive in you area.
Tulsa is OK right? then they grow a lot in your hot summers!

You cant go wrong with a Musa basjoo. They're available all over and are a great ornamental. Plenty of good advise on this site on how to overwinter or just ask. A great first banana to try but, not edible. Lots of folks here are willing to help.
