This is one of my Dwf. Cavendishes that bloomed a few days ago.
Although it is a quite nice bud, the timing of bloom was quite unhappy for both
of us, the bud and me. It was to late and nothing to do with it from now.
So I wonder if there is some easy method that can contorl the timing of bloom.

Yes. I'd like to know that too.
My California Gold is about to bloom I think the way it is behaving. I'd like to wait till after the winter season.

I wonder also if you top it off at the right time if you can delay it from sending up the meristem.

Excellent question, how could one know the "right time"? Is there a telltale sign or some sort of test to determine when this might be happening? A rise in certain chemicals within the sap, or something like that? Has anyone ever researched this?

I just had one of my Orinoco's send up a bud. It was one that we had to top by several feet as it was damaged by Ike. I would think that if we had not been forced to top it that the bud would still be down in the psuedostem and likely not have emerged until spring. As it is now, the plant has about 3 leaves, but my banana leaves normally get toasted by a little frost each winter so I'm not expecting much. I'll leave any fruit that may develop and see what happens.
