When I lived in New York, my hybrid teas did fine over the winter without any protection. The usual caution applies about removing any dead foliage from around the plant. I also prune mine close for the winter. Good luck!

My wife cuts her roses back to about 18-24 inches high - if you are still worried about it, put a 5 gallon or some burlap over it or do both. you could also mound up some straw or hay around it to help out too

Prune 6 to 8 inches above the graft union. Bury the whole thing in mulch, preferably a dry mixture of peat moss and wood chips. Put a small tarp or plastic over that so snow pack won't sit on directly on the mulch pile. Put some rocks or tree branches on the plastic to keep it in place. For Newfoundland, remove the tarp in early March and pull the mulch away from the graft union by April 1st (no kidding!).
