Hello All,
Just when we thought the fire season was over we have a devastating fire in Santa Barbara, CA. Over 2500 acres burnt and 100 plus homes lost last night. We had 70 mile per hour winds last night. The fire is heading towards the city. We evacuted my business last night. The last fire we had was in july and the fire got less than 1/2 mile from our house and we evacuated. The fire fighters are are very brave and we Thank them very much!

Oprah is talking about the fire right now. She showed live helicopter view of fires. She has a house there, & she is talking to her neighbor -Rob Lowe by phone. His house is OK but he said he could see the flames last night behind his house. They evacuated last night. They said if winds pick up/change, it will head right for Santa Barbara.

That's one thing about So Cal that I don't miss!
Andrew, stay safe and heed the evac warnings so we have you around awhile!
I have a nephew up there helping out with the fires. Hope the winds die down soon and all come home safe.

Thank you for all your kind words and prayers!!! We are o.k. Our winds today were mild but it was 90 degrees. Between 100 to 200 homes have been lost. One of my clients lost their home last night. It is zero percent contained. It does appear to be heading away from downtown. I will keep all of you updated. Thank you again!

Wow, Andrew, I had no idea there was still much of a fire threat anywhere. We got some pretty good rains here in the past month and things are cool and wet here, though getting up to the upper 70s. I guess I should have known it was drier down there. I don't watch TV so hadn't seen the fire there and appreciate you posting it. I wonder if you wish you were in Hawaii already or if that would just cause more worry about not being home to rescue things if that would become necessary. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers!

No, I did not take these photos as the winds were moving so fast it was very dangerous. My family is the world to me!

Thanks Harvey! We have had very little rain here. I am scheduled to leave for Hawaii on Wednesday as long as they continue with the progress on the fires. They are 40% contained. Everything in the fires path was destroyed. They estimate 200 homes. None of these homes were under a million dollars. Many of them were 5 to 10 million plus. Thank you again for all of your good wishes.

The fires are really widespread. I am in W. LA many miles from any of the fires and the smoke blowing over us on the way to the ocean was choking yesterday. The whole day had a very apocalyptic feel to it. So many people are now homeless, it's really sad. On a bright note, I think the Santa Winds are dying out which will make it easier to get the fires under control.

Patti,
Thank you for your concerns and well wishes. My family is doing well. The fires are 80 plus percent contained in the Santa Barbara area. Over 200 homes were destroyed. It is very sad. The air quality is better now and the wind is not acting up. We have ash every where. The plants took a beating with the heavy winds. We are leaving for Hawaii on Wednesday for two weeks. I feel better going away knowing the fires are mostly contained. Our hearts now go out for Southern California and the fire fighters are appreciated. They are dealing with multiple fires and hundreds of homes were lost down south.
During a time of dispair all of your well wishes were very comforting! It is nice to know so many people that I have never met are so kind.
Thank you!!

Good to hear that the fire didn't get your house. I just went to a funeral in Carpenteria, and had no idea how bad it was up there on Mountain drive. The only two people I know(beside relatives) in the area lost their homes, and every neighbor around my aunts home lost their house, but her house was built with adobe brick, so it luckily didn't burn, but their cars in the driveway did, and the out buildings. She was also happy that some of her burnt plants are showing a little green, including the Musa Mannii that I sent her a few years ago!

Thank you Kyle. I am sorry to hear you had to attend a funeral. A lot of people lost their homes. I am happy to hear your aunt is o.k. We are in Maui right now. I will post pictures when I get back home. Of you come back to town again let me know I can show you some great places to get bananas.
