Hi envil,
I can't give you any healthy info on the peelings but I can tell you what I do with them... They make the greatest fertilizer for staghorn ferns, Platycerium species. Throw the peelings into their crown, water and see the fern grow. They seem to have the ideal combo for the fern. Cheers!

We had a discussion of banana peels on this site earlier this year. If you were to provide all the nutrients for a plant using banana peels, you will need:
150 per year for a plant that would fit in a 2-5 gallon pot
1200 per year for a shrub planted in the ground
2400 per year for a medium size fruit tree with 6'x6' canopy
According to a book I'm reading Hippies use to smoke them! No report on the effects though.

You can also use them to polish patent-leather shoes to a high-shine finish.

Hi,
I know very little about peeling but I know they are good compost for vegetable cultivation.
They are high in potassium so a significant amount is great for flowering and fruiting vegetables, but a poor choice for leafy veggies like lettuce -- banana peels will cause these to bolt (bloom early).
