Here's my idea of layering the garden! :ha: Two Hawaiian Apple bunches up top, Raja Puri and Dwarf Cavendish bunches at eye level. There is a 3rd Hawaiian Apple bunch a few feet to the left but I couldn't get it in the same picture due to some leaves blocking the view.

Your dog is trained ... your bananas are trained .... and organic to boot!! All those nanas fruiting at once! What an awesome sight.

Thanks Deb, hopefully mother nature doesn't take the nanners from me this year. So far........knock on wood.........I have only lost one mature plant to the winds. It was a plant that decided to grow at just the right angle leaving only an inch or so of space between the p-stem and the top of my neighbors garage. The first time the wind blew that direction it snapped right at the roof line. Most of my plant training is done when they are little pups. I decide which ones stay and which ones go based on the direction they are growing and whether I think they will get enough sunlight when mature. The side closest to her garage is best for morning light, but a gamble with the winds.

What a disapointment to have your banana snap off like that.
We have wind problems off and on here too and we need to work on some protection next year.
You can see from my avatar photo how over crowded my first bed became so live and learn. Better banana training next year. I had underestimated how huge and fast the cannas would grow when I placed them in front of the bananas and then put the nanas too close together. We have another bed dug out and filled with good stuff waiting ready for next year and I'll be able to spread things out some. It won't be against the house for wind protection. I'm happy with my first year though and can't wait for year two.

Yea, looks great!
Mitchell , would you please settle something for me. I have a couple of "manzano" apple bananas. I am now under the impression that these are the same as "Brazilian" and that the Hawaiian "apple" are a different variety. Do I have this straight or not? Thanks Bob

According to Gabe Hawaiian Apple and tall Brazilian are the same plant. Monzano is different. I'm not sure what a Dwarf Brazilian is because I've never heard of Dwarf Hawaiian Apple or Dwarf Manzano.
