Found some pics I took a few months ago of the bananas and some other plants that I have growing here in the desert. It was about 115f the day these pics were taken, and the bananas do fine with no shade at all, as long as they are heavily watered. The few that get partial shade actually don't seem to grow as well. Now if they can make it through the winter here in AZ Things should really take off next year. Most of the plants are several feet taller now than they were in these pics. As you can see from the last shot the lot was pretty desolate desert with very unfertile soil before the planting began.

I am very impressed! This gives me renewed hope of growing mine in this crummy soil (with some good soil in the hole, of course)
Mine are going into the ground this spring, all we have to do is get them through the winter. Can't wait to see them this spring and summer.

You should have no problem as long as you water them very heavily during the summer months.

That is a huge & beautiful house! I'd get lost in it LOL.
Nice job with the landscaping. I've seen browner lawns around here in summer.

Thanks, guests do occasionaly get lost, but I've got it pretty well figured out at this point lol! I have alot more landscaping to go though. It's a big area so even when you throw alot of plants in sometimes it seems like your not making a dent. Right now I am trying to concentrate on developing some undergrowth for the bananas.

I wouldn't think that has much to do with it my elevation is only like 2000ft, but you never know. Besides my attitude is if it lives it lives if it dies it dies. So I dont usually jump through hoops to get them going or keep them alive. I will try to help them some this winter, but I won't go over board with it.

I think the altitude might come into play if it made it cooler, but in my case it still reaches 115-120f in the shade on a regular basis. I still think the key is giving them enough water which will also aid in evaporative cooling. Which works well in dry climate.

Nice set up you have there! For some reason I'm envisioning some Mexican Weeping Bamboo planted in a few strategic locations in front of the house. Love that plant!
