This is not unusual. We see that a lot in the Philippines with common varieties. It is just freakish growth, not a unique type of banana. This could occur with different types of bananas. We call it "kambal" (twins).

I missed those twin bananas. The ones I usually see with twin are with the Latundan cultivars. It seldom happens in Lakatan. I really missed the Lakatans. It's the best edible banana in the Philippines.

Not all are always twins if I remember correctly. Sometimes there is one twin in a clump.

Happens all the time in Ecuador, on a number of cultivars. We call them "doblados" or "gemelos" (doubles or twins) and they get separated from the bunch and sold as single fingers for a slightly higher price.

Yo Fernie, I was driving around the countryside today and saw a bunch of bananas in a bush with 1 ripe comb and amongst it was a double joe like the one you have. Well, I was a little hungry so I gulped it down! It's common here and as kids we used to fight over it. Cheers!
My gran nain has one growing like this.

It was a photo of two fingers that were joined together, somewhat like you would see with a full hand of Praying Hands.
