I got up early in the rain and headed 2 hours south of Charleston to the Savannah Bamboo and Coastal Gardens Fall Festival. Its about 2 minutes from I-95, exit 94, a quick and easy trip.

I got there right when it opened at 9am and headed for the banana section.
This was the view from my parking place:

I knew they sold some plants off every fall. I wanted to see what types had done well there and pick up a few more for my zone. I got a little closer.

I headed towards the tent and saw buckets full of plants.

Nearly every bucket had a different variety.

I picked up 5 @$20 each.

The volunteers dug the FHIA-25 for me. If you saw a variety they did not have in the buckets, they would dig it for you. Great folks down in Savannah!

For what its worth, Dr. Greg Fonsah or Dr. Richard Wallace were not there, nor were there any Viente Cohols or any of the ornamental varieties available.

Porkpi,
Looking at the pics, it looks like alot of us would have been in nanner heaven!!!! Even with the rain, it sure looks like it was well worth your time to trip down there. Shame you were not able to grab one of Dr. Wallace's ornamentals. I have seen pics of them and understand there sould be some new hybrids on the market soon. Thanks for sharing your trip with us as I know alot of us would have loved to have been there in person.
Nice plants you picked up, BTW...

Nice find! But, I'm wondering how these can survive without roots. I don't see any roots!

Patty, the roots were really short,"cleaned up" as they called it. They know what they are doing down there, so I am not too concerned.

Wow, that is really a nice find for you. I have to believe it won't be happening in Las Vegas, ever.... Oh well, if you like cactus, we have 'em here. Although I just picked up a Madagascar Palm today. Very interesting plant, has the cactus thorns, but then it also has leaves that come off the sides lihe a palm. Quite interesting, I will take some pics once I get back home and pot it tomorrow.

I only purchased one banana that I did not have today. This festival is always fun for the family for all of the activities. Fun for me because of the bananas. I could not help but not be as excited because Dr. Greg or Dr. Richard Wallace were not there. I look forward to their banana talk and the excitement and passion for growing bananas. I usually leave there not being able to wait for spring. One more baby was brought home so it was a good day.

Dr Wallace always chopped the roots. All the plants I have purchased from there were purchased this way and they grow without any problems. I dont remember why he said that they do this. I want to say to prevent transferring any soil problems or diseases that may develope to different locations but dont quote me.

Wow, thanks a lot for the photos. I always wanted to go to this event, but I haven't had the opportunity yet. It's rather far from Little Rock. I'm glad you had a good time and posted pics for us to enjoy.

I go past the place everyday and have yet to be able to make it to the fall festival.
