You won't believe it! I'm still in shock. After reading how tough it can be to get a nanner seed to germinate , and figuring to never try it again I came home to fing a Darjeeling Giant sikkimensis seedling sprouted!!!! You've seen the ad on ebay where I got it , 4 seeds each of Regular, red form and daj giant seeds from Ireland. I got mine a little less than a month ago (right after starting some Ensete Glaucum seed). I soaked them all for 2 weeks each variety in a shot glass and planted in the tiny cells (72pack) I would start lettuce in.,in some seed starting mix. I put these on the heat mat I use for tomatoes in the spring. Well it's less than 2 weeks since planting and one has shot up over nightabout 3/4 of an inch. Apologise for no pictures my didgital camera has gone missing but I'll get some up ASAP................Now I've got to go find out about this plant!:woohoonaner:

Nah, not too exited. One of the "Ensete Glaucums" just poked up a tip this morning, ...........off to do a few more cartwheels.

It's a nice looking plant. I'll try and take a couple of snaps of one.

Congrats, I started some from seed last February and mine has gotten huge over the summer. It has very pretty leaves and grew like crazy. I have moved it in for the Zone 6b winter but plan to move it out next year and let it grow some more. When I planted it in June it was about 6" tall, now it is 7.5' tall.

I am up to 6 Ensete Glaucum and 2 Darjeeling Giants sprouted. One thing I noticed is that I accidentally let the E. Glaucum seeds dry the day before the first one sprouted so, I've been waiting to water until after the top of the cell dries. It was so successful that I am at 60 percent germination so far, all first signs of sprouting coming after a dry period. I started taking all the Sikkimensis seeds off the heat mat at night as I've read about fluctuating temperatures being beneficial to germination of these. So far so good.
By the way, I've chosen to transplant these as soon as they poke through the soil figuring that the seed is still providing all the energy to the plant and would suffer less or no transplant shock. This has proved to be true as all the seedlings are doing really well. The first two are starting to develop their second leaves already.
