I don't know who this plant belongs to, but I found it among a bunch of normal ones in one of the school greenhouses. Both of the ones I found in my lab reverted to all green, this one looks stable. I've been trying to track down the owner but no luck yet. I just thought I would share.

Its cool that you found it but i have to admit in comparison to the Ae Ae it looks kinda sick. are we sure this is genetic and not some sort of disease or deficiency?. this is just my opinion but yellow any thing on its leafs always looks unhealthy to me! by the way how do you find this stuff? out of every one on the Org you always manage to find the weirdest plants in the most seemingly mundane places. LOL

Very nice looking plant. I won a plant like that on e-bay from Thialand. They called it Ta Nee. It spent one month in US customs. It did not make the journey and they seller disapeared. That will teach me to try that again!

Its not diseased and its not a heritable genetic mutation either, its a chimera. When you hang around enough banana plants, you start to see it all!

Bummer, that's my greatest fear in bidding on the bananas being offered on eBay by Thai sellers.

Here in San Diego county, there is great fear about the spread of the Asian Citrus Psyllid. The USDA has responded by sending dozens of inspection agents to the southern CA area to assist with inspection and eradication. I met one yesterday who was patrolling a local farmers market. He said they now have additional agents in customs areas and package distribution centers of the post office and other carriers. There are scanning systems installed there which were originally in place for drug detection. Now if something comes up positive for vegetative material without a phyto-certificate on the outside, it is sent off for further inspection.

thanks for that info Richard its a good thing i don't order plants form foreign sources i don't know if any of you remember a thread were by we discussed not buying from out side the USA do to the spread of panama desease i remember its being a vary heated debate but i thought that the general consciences was that it was a bad idea unless it was the only sores for the plant material in question? and on the flip side if a grower stiffs you at least theres laws here in the USA that you can avail your self of
Pauly , you just brought up an interesting point. I routinely compost bananas from foreign countries that presumably could have been exposed and use the compost in my vegetable garden. Now I'm wondering if this could effect the bananas I 'm planning on growing there next spring?

well Bob i would think if your Bananas had panama you would know it pretty fast but as its highly contagious you mite have spread it around pretty good before you realized you had it but on the other hand unless you live in a zone that is conducive to the spread of such diseases probably isn't going to spread i think its mainly a concern for the members living in say FL and all those wet zone 10 i live in zone 9 and i would say that its possible for panama to survive here but unlikely how ever being that I'm the second driest place in the USA the likely hood is astronomical unless maybe i would spread it by the use of infected tools i do and every one should always use good sanitation practices in the garden never use a tool on one plant then go directly to another with out cleaning that tool first this is particularly important with roses as the we all know they are infected if they are grafted almost always. thank God i done buy grafted roses any more J&P suck and have ruined the rose industry here in the USA for those of you that don't know you don't have to buy grafted roses thees days theres lots that will survive in the cold with out the grafting process well I'm digressing sorry people i didn't mean to hijack this thread! go back to what you were talking about before i interrupted LOL :rollerbananadone:
