Um... I know some is ornamental but it seems like ya'll have enough to provide a small country with fruit!! :ha: Just out of curiosity, how much fruit do you have in a good year and what do you do with it all??
Lynn your green thumb is bionic! I'm ready to rest up abit too. It's been a really fun and satisfying summer though.

This is my first year growing them, so I hope to have lots of fruit next year. As I mentioned though, some of these are just TC starts that are in the process of being hardened right now - about a third of them. So while there are a good number of plants, most of these are first year bananas, and my tallest is only about 7-8' at this point.
Once I get them going strong next spring, I want to TC several of them myself. This winter I will be working on filling in the gaps with some of the ones I don't have yet, but still want. In part, this is an experiment to determine heat and drought tolerance characteristics for each. Hopefully there will be lots of pups next spring too.

That's my plan, one of these days. Just need to get my hands on a couple of them, funds allowing. My birthday IS coming up in about a month...
I only started growing earlier this year. Right now I've got an Ice Cream, Dwarf Red, and Raja Puri. Ditto! It does not look like it is hard for you to find plants in the UK. Are they in the ground or in pots?
Mark Hall
10-15-2008, 02:42 AM
95% of them are in pots. We don't really have any specialist banana sellers in the UK now that Koba Koba has closed down.
Quite a few are from seed and some are swaps with other collectors.
All the red tape paperwork with imposts make it hard to get them too.
I have chipped in with a small group and ordered some bits from The U.S to help cut down the costs and that helps to bring a few in.
