Hi, Im Puii, from Aizawl, a small hilly state in the North Eastern Region of India. i joined this site in order to get access to the latest knowledge and findings in banana. Since the North East India is also one of the centres of origin of banana, we have some forms of wild bananas indigeneous to this region.

Welcome Puii!!!

This group is hungry for information on indigenous bananas from all parts of the world. The biggest challenge that we face here is the cold climate, and we often engage in discussions on how to take care of our bananas in the winter. We are also, always looking for varieties that can spend the winter outside in the yard. Growers in the southern part of the USA have a lot of success growing bananas, and actually get fruit from their plants.

We're very happy to have you join!

Chong

Dear chong, thanks for the warm welcome. As of the indegeneous banana we have here in Mizoram, a small state located in the north-eastern hill of India, we have one that is identified as Ensete superba, locally called as "saisu" in Mizo. The plant bears inedible fruit filled with 30-32 seeds, producing no sucker and the pseudostem are cooked and used for vegetable purpose. Have you ever seen or heard of such type?? if so, id like to know about them.
Take care

I've heard of them, and seen pictures. But I thought they were from Thailand or Burma.

I guess not, but it helped me a lot, I have been looking for some frost tolerant varieties and this one seems to do the trick... Thanks ;)
