I put 5 photos under the name of unkown plantain. It's call "platano blanco" (white plantain) here in Puerto Rico, but I want to know it's real name.

Call it Carlos!
Seriously though, I really have no idea what it is.

The thing about banana cultivar names is that there is no "official" name for any of them, they go by whatever they are called in a specific region, if people call it 'Platano Blanco' there, then that is as precise a name as any, though there may be synonyms for the same variety in other regions. I can tell you though that the plant you have is a type of French Plantain, which is a group of plantains, it does not mean the name is "French Plantain", just that it belongs to that group.

i feel for you.

I have 2 dozen "native" varieties growing, banana, plantain, and other sorts of fruits and veggies, and I am always compelled to find their english language name.

I have the same problem with my chickens too. its either a "ponedora"(layer), Americana(almost every other breed), Ingles (birds for cockfighting) or Japones (naked necks), and some know what Silkies are.

Sweet I've never gone off topic on my first post on a new forum before! According to the map we're pretty much neighbors. I thought I'd ressurect this thread and say hello. two birds, one stone.

Hey Mayiyo - that looks pretty similar to my French Plantain!
