Beautiful plants! Are they in the sunken pots so you can concentrate the water because of your climate? I had put some old very large broken clay pot tops around my in ground basjoo for that reason, turn the hose on low and walk away for a bit.

Way to go Pauly! Nice stuff. I like your William's hybrid and of course your Ae Ae very much. Over here, I am really enjoying my 8 months old Ensete superbum. With the weather here and copious feeding and watering, I get 1 new leaf EVERY day. It feels more like a pet than a plant! And of course, I am indebted to your advice and notes on the PM.

Thanks Pauly. I had no idea how your conditions were . Yeah 50 2 sq ft bags would put a dent in any ones wallet. Any way you're doing great with them!

Looking good Pauly! Is that an Ae Ae pup in the first Ae Ae picture, or is it an EV just in front of it?
The new leaves sure look better than the first ones from when you got it. Looks like the fungus is under control or gone.

Wow! Every day - nothing grows that fast here. That's amazing to me. We are lucky to get a new leaf every week, but we live in an oven here in the Mojave desert. We have to really watch our bananas closely and every day, make corrections as needed. But, so far, we have shown that bananas can grow here. Now we will have to see if we can get them to bear fruit next year.

Man, third hottest summer in history must have been something. I heard when it gets over 115F they don't tell the actuall temp(just keep it there), so that it doesn't scare away the tourists.
Your edibles look great. Have you thought of using those gel crystals, that artificially keep the soil wet?

I think they may survive the heat better in the ground. Mine are all doing well here in AZ with no shade at all, and it's even hotter here than it is at your place. I am just concerned how they will do during the desert winter nights, since I can't be bothered to dig them up and store them inside.

I had them, but had to leave them behind when I moved out here. I might try them next summer.

I want to try putting them in the ground. Our soil here is just crap though. What amendments have you made to your soil there to put them in-ground?
Do you use shade cloth at all, or just the protection of the mat?

No shade protection at all. I put about 6 cubic feet potting soil with each banana. The soil here is also crap, hard clay and decomposing granite. The mat protection would also be minimal as most of my bananas are spaced pretty far away from one another. I just use massive amounts of water. Drip irragation system.
