Hi there. I'm still a musa newbie, having bought my first banana plants just a few short months ago (small 12" TC specimens). But in those two months they've grown so explosively that I'm totally hooked. So far all my plants are in pots but I will put some in the ground next spring. My wife is scared that it's not going to stop with just a few bananas--and she may be right :ha:.

I'm so happy that I discovered bananas.org. I will hang out here a lot to learn as much as I can.

By the way, I live in Davis, California (zone 9).

Gerhard

Welcome and I really apologize for posting to your thread this late, but I didn't notice it the first time. You seem to live in a banana growing zone and there are lots of people from California here, so should you have any question or interesting observation, just shoot it here.

Gerhard:
Later on I will introduce you to Joe Real a real guro in growing bananas and citrus in his own right. Lately, he is so busy with his new business trying to solve the problem of manufacturing more of his product AZ41. There are many requirements from the CityGods for safety and blahs. He is also trying to take care of his son's admission to college as a freshman in Washington. He is the one who introduced me to citrus and bananas. He also gives lectures regarding growing bananas, citrus and grafting different cultivars at different orgs like CRFG.
He is from Davis CA a PhD graduate of Davis University but he does not look it. He just look like a regular Joe.
If you can email me I'll give you his phone number.

Yep. Let's hope that some activity in his thread will send him a mail. If he stopped looking here because of no replies, maybe it's time for him to come back.

This sounds just like me...
3 little Dwarf Orinocos...
...the week after, another 2.
2 weeks later...2 dozen more of everything else I could find!!!

LOVE the bananas!! Welcome to the Org Gerhard!!! :) ~Cheryl

Let's hope. He posted twice in October 08 then disappeared, probably due to winter.
If you're still out there and interested, we'd Luv to see ya here & in the threads :) !

Howdy!

Thought I'd give 'ya a holler--I'm in Sacramento, too, just a bit yonder in Rosemont. New to both the area and this forum.

I'm sorta hanging back on getting 1 or 2 (is it possible to just have 1 or 2?). I've seen a couple of Cannas at Walmart's. Pretty flowers, and I'm tempted.

Anyway, welcome to the plantation.:waving:

I second that! Banana cultivation is addictive, so be careful....but at least it's not an unhealthy one! Just fun! Welcome and enjoy the site!
