How do you separate the pups on this variety? They are attached directly to the mother, not via a corm??? I did as I normally would and began cutting in between the mother and pup on some 2 plus footers, and they severed clean without roots? They sprout from in between the place, at the base, where the leaf intersects the stalk. I did manage to get one with roots, but I really think I just killed 3 pups and maybe the mother.
How do you separate the pups? Have you done it successfully?
Thanks,

It was successfully done by my friend and all the pups grew. He basically dug them out completely, cleaned with water and then cut with a sharp knife so that each pup have a little bit of mother corm and each one has some roots. He did not separate those that have no roots, the tiny pups usually. It is easier to cut when it is clean. He then cut the leaves, trimmed off the roots to just 2 inches, and replanted in each pot. All grew vigorously during the summer. The mother plant is the only one that he did not cut the leaves back, and that also grew well.
I have to tell him several times that I don't want that plant as he tried to give me 5 or more pups. We managed to give it away to all our friends who wanted some tropical look. I don't like the shape and the shape of the leaves of these plants, but that's just me.

I second your oppinion on this one JoeReal. I had lasiocarpa for a short time but it managed to find it's way out of my yard. I personally am not too interested in anything that isn't edible at this point.
Are you going to come down and get some Cal Gold fruit at harvest time?
