Question: Can you use Fuji apple in making apple pie?
I will harvest a lot pretty soon.

I've used them before. The pie turns out good, just make sure you adjust the sugars to your taste. Since Fuji is a sweet eating apple make sure you adjust the sugar, or buy a tart type of apple like Granny Smith and do a half and half. This site should answer your question more fully.

Thank you Amber for a very good post.
I looked it up and sure enough, I can do it easily. The good thing about it is I think I have both type of apples that is needed for a good apple pie. I graft a granny apple last summer and they fruited but I cut all the fruits thinking that I'd let it grow vegetatively. But the ones that I got from my sister I let it fruited and now I have 3 kinds of apples almost ready to harvest.
I'll post pictures soon.

Enjoy your pies. Also, I have made apple sauce from Fuji Apples before, it was pretty good as well. If you go to All recipes – complete resource for recipes and cooking tips (http://www.allrecipes.com), there are tons of recipes for apples, if you get sick of pie that is ^_-. Beautiful tree, the fruits look amazing. Goodluck finding a use for all of them :)

No problem guys. Whenever I get bored with what I've been cooking lately, I go there. And the reviews are usually spot on, I highly suggest reading people's reviews, adjustments they made ect, before embarking on the recipe. :)

Thanks Amber.
I just made 2 apple pies, crust and all and boy! am I delighted.
There's no comparison to the ones you buy.
I almost ate half of a 9" pie even though it was still hot.

There is nothing like homemade anything! Apples especially. I tell you what, if you take the time to make it, applesauce from fresh apples is out of this world. Which apples did you use in the pie? Did you do a mix or just one type?

Amber:
I was reluctant to ask you when you said making apple sauce. Now that you mentioned it again. How do you make apple sauce? Is that a dessert too? Sorry for being so naive.
Pete:
Apple cider is again very new to me. Will it be hard? The whole family loves apple juice and apple cider comes close to it. Will you be so kind to tell me how do you make it?
I will have a lot of apples when they ripe I don't know what to do with them.

Apple Sauce
INGREDIENTS
2 apples - peeled, cored and shredded
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup water
3 tablespoons brown sugar
DIRECTIONS
Place shredded apples in a medium saucepan over medium low heat. Sprinkle with cinnamon, then add water and cook until the apple bits become soft and mushy.
Stir in brown sugar and mix well; if desired, top with ice cream and serve.
This is a simple one to get you started and doesn't use a lot of ingredients (which isn't too much waste incase you don't care for it) I've done this one before and it's not too much sugar, but as with everything you adjust to taste, I've even added a little nutmeg before because I like it personally. Add as much or as little cinammon as you like. You can also dice the apples into small cubes until the become soft and mushy, and use an old fashioned potato masher if you don't feel like shredding them.

Thank you Amber. That recipe is simple enough for a great dessert for my kids.

Hi Benny,
Sorry ,I forgot to reply when you asked this(it's been crazy here).
I don't know anything about the proccess. I did listen to a program about making apple juice, cider and hard cider but I don't recall all of the details. I do remember them saying that to make hard cider from apple cider one just removes the cap and that's about it....lol
I was actually hoping that you would have some directions to share.
I am determined to get some apple trees going now though. it's all your fault :ha:
BTW...I'm looking at a plate of Fuji apple slices and crunchy peanut butter as I type this (the best combination ever!!) :D

Sorry I was away for a week. Those are beautiful trees. It looks like you'll have apples coming out your ears for awhile. And it's np about the recipe, it's pretty simple. I've even read recipes for Carmel Apple Upside Down Cake, (Instead of the usual Pineapple Upside down cake) Good luck finding uses for them all :)

Amber:
Thanks.
I made the apple sauce but I served them in the morning. They were so in a hurry for school so I was not able to ask them how was it?
I plan to make them again soon and with ice cream on top as you suggested.

Your apples are gorgous! The best thing we ever bought was a juicer steamer. We bottled some apple juice last year when we were able to glean some trees after the harvest. We cored the apples and tossed them in and the juice poured out a rubber tube. We put spices in some before we canned it to drink hot in the winter.
