I have been having to wait an inordinate amount of time lately for page changes on the site, and some of my posts have failed with an error message of: "Okay". Anybody else noticing problems?

Making some more changes to the server configuration now, so if you have a hard time with the site just know that I am working on making it healthier, made a lot of improvements today to prevent the site from being slow or unresponsive, it really bothers me when its like that and I know it's aggravating when you loose a post you were about to make or have to try and upload your pics twice...

That's Scotty from Whidby Island, WA. He's now orbiting the earth right now. Well, his remains, anyway. Nice guy, but he sure had a disdain for William Shatner.

Is everyone else still having as much trouble with the site as I am, or is it just me and my old 'puter?!?! Man, sure wish there was something that can be done as I enjoy this place, but I don't even want to stop in much anymore as it takes too long to get anywhere!!! HELP JARRED!!!!

Not just you Randy. Two nights ago, I spent from 10PM to almost 3AM trying to get 3 posts (1 long one) through. In the process, I lost 2 posts, because it timed out each time, and the Back Button timed out, too. So last night, I worked off line, before pasting it onto the reply window, then click the Submit Button. Not much you can do if the server is having problems.

It's working somewhat better today, but I think it's really hit and miss.

Worst it's been in a while, but the feedback here is just showing how much people really dig this forum. Hope it has turned the corner today!

At a few times during the day, the website was fast. Most of the time, however, it was very slow and timed out.

It really seems like there is quite a lot of paging in the PM section. When I try to open or send a PM I watch the status bar and it keeps going back and forth with something.underground.......It seems like it's in a loop.
Don't really know how else to explain it, but I never remember seeing it before.

Could it be the repetitious thread replies with the large photo files? Every time someone replies, the photos show up again.
There is also something I noticed in the status bar below whenever I use PM. It seems to be flip-flopping some page file that says (something).underground....or similar. This paging is something I hadn't noticed previously.

Oh yeah, some of the weather underground stickers constantly update every few seconds. I don't know if this would be the issue though since the messages are coming from bananas.org server and the little stickers are coming from weather underground.

I has taken over 10 minutes to get this window up.
It seems to me (and I am not a techie by any means) that some investigation about slowness must continue, including the following:
1) Is the board softwaree overwhelmed by the growth of this board?
2) Condition and size of the database. With all of the entries does it need compression? Reorganization?
3) Are there enough channels? When I log on, the software is reporting a large number of people reading the boards, but few writing by comparison. Are there ghost users hung in the system?
I inhabit several boards related to tropicla gardening (palms, bananas, bamboo, and cycads). This one by far is the slowest, and I leave it to last because of this.
Just my 2 cents worth....

For what its worth, I disabled ad.doubleclick.com in my hosts file and all sites that it accesses are now much faster.....including this one.
I am not certain that this makes a difference here, but it turned the trick for me.

Hi Guys,
I'm going to perhaps get a new server and move the site, I am sick and tired of the bad performance the current server is providing.
I was out of town last week and had a technician helping watch over things. I'm not happy with this and will be making a big change. Thanks for understanding and I'm terribly sorry for the trouble and aggravation.

How do I go about doing that?Scot the best thing to do is go to Spybot surch and distroy destroy and down load the free scanner also addware 2007 if your get those two programs between the two you computer will never have a spy ware problem really keeps things running smooth those are just about the best free ware out there and they update for free too

We actually don't connect to ad.doubleclick.com from here but if you have some spyware on your computer, doing that will probably help speed up your browsing experience.

Am new here so I apologize if I step on any toes but from my perspective it is very discouraging to try to learn my way around only to be kicked off or timed out with every attempt. It took five or six tries to even register. Originally heard about this site through Dave's Garden. When I mentioned that I was about to give up they said to try one more time that this place was worth it. Still having some problems but it sounds like you are on top of it.

Tetley, keep the faith, this site is so good. It has just been problematic lately and will soon be returned to normal. This is not the usual speed of the site and has just come about recently.
Glad you persevered and joined our group. There is no better place on the internet to learn about bananas in every aspect. I am sure that you will agree once you check around a bit once the server is back to normal.
