I think I stumbled on a bargain!!! I was out last Sunday checking out the local garden center sales and ran across a bunch of tropicals for 60% off. In the middle of the bunch were some pretty rough looking bananas. In the middle of that group of pots was a rather dark purple looking plant and the tag only read "varigated banana" It was originally $99.95 so I figured $40 didn't sound too bad. It is about 5' tall and had 4 pups all about 2' tall. I figured I needed another winter project like a hole in the head and the nursery was closing in 15 minutes. I left.
The next day I drove out on my lunch to look at it again and asked the manager if he'd play "Let's Make a Deal" and he wanted to know on what plants. I took him over to the banana and he looked it over and said he'd take 75% off. Great....down to $25 bucks. As I'm standing at the checkout I see this little yellow tag sticking out of the soil about 1/4". I pull it out and the 5 gallon pot is full of Siam Ruby Bananas.

Where you are yes I can get 3 gallon buckets for $1 here, but that's another story.

I agree. It is amazing how many nurseries have no clue what they have. Last week I saw a travelers palm at a nursery and asked how much it was. They argued with me that it was a giant bird of paradise. Their loss.
