Well, it was a big corm with lots of roots, and the first leaf popped up in no time at all.

Maybe next time I visit your place it will have fruit on it:ha:

I like the way you get so many little bananas hanging down , it makes a change from seeing the normal bunches.
Again its one that I would like but it wont be seen over this side of the pond as our Banana sellers just seem to go for the same old run of the mill bananas.

Yes Mark - I've never seen one over here - tha's what make it so exciting. I can't wait for it to get to fruiting size. Jarred says it takes a year or two to get the REALLY big bunches but perhaps if I feed it massively........

There was talk of it being done at one time but it went belly up as the person who thought about doing it hadn't really thought about the distribution of all the plants when they arrive in the UK and all the time re packing them and the further costs of it.

At moment I am thinking od asking a few select collectors on HTUK to throw in and get a bulk order including Gingers,Costus,Curcumas.

Trouble is I don't have a credit card and the company I was looking at don't accept PAYPAL.

A couple of companys now refuse to deal with the UK due to its harsh import laws. Even with a phyto DEFRA still want more from the sellers and you only get 3 days to obtain it or the plants are destroyed or sent back.

I suppose it would involve all the group to chip in for postal tubes for the plants to be sent too. Then further costs of postage to each person.

Maybe an alternative would be to approach one of the tropical plant sellers in the UK who deal with Agristarts for other plants and try to order thru them.

Miss Cassie,
Here's what you can look forward to getting next year -

This photo was taken from a home backyard in Negros Island in the Philippines. The plant hasn't even finished fruiting and the flower is already touching the ground near where the family cooks.

I hope we can get samples of the fruit from you, Miss Cassie!

Chong - thanks for posting that pic! The first time I saw the 1,000 fingers I knew I had to have one. Mine is doing well but has a long way to go as the pstem is only about 18 inches to 2ft atm! I think I will have gone to heaven when I achieve something like that bunch! Can you imagine! If you can find a way for these to be sent into the USA, I will send as many as you like (obviously I will have plenty!!). The USA postal services refuse to accept any plant material (the DR is 3rd world and no phyto certificates exist). But all that is a long way off at present and perhaps we can think up a plan in the meantime!

Sometimes I wished I lived in the tropics ,so I could grow bananas like that ouside! Here I have to fight the battle with winter. Missouri has cold winters!!! I have a building where I grow them but I have to stick to dwarfs. Oh well it's a challenge.

Jamie - there are some beautiful dwarfs around and often they fruit quite readily so perhaps you could get fruit on one of them. The 1000 fingers had 3260 fingers on the bunch when we counted them - but some were too small to eat really.

Hi island cassie

Do 1000 finger pups have any small red splashes on the leaves,as mine has faint red splashes on them. The one in your pic doesn't have them.

Hello,

I was wondering... Do all banana plants always send up a flag leaf that let's you know they are going to bloom?

Mushtaq - my 1000 fingers is solid green with no hint of pink or red except on the edges of new petioles - which soon turns brownish.
