CRFG publication Fruit Gardener Sept/Oct 2008 issue features HarveyC as the expert pomegranate shucker at the Wolfskill Pomegranate Tasting event recently. I didn't know that you could actually separate the pulp from the shell of the pomegranate without crushing them. Great job, Harvey!

The article mentions that Harvey's a commercial chestnut-grower-turned-pomegranate-man. What???????!!!! Nothing about bananas?????

Hi Chong, thanks for noticing! ;)

Hey, I grow alfalfa also, where I make most of my money, and no mention of that either. Chestnuts are also grown for profit and pomegranates as well, if the trial works out okay. Bananas are done purely for fun and just not something others consider a serious thing, I guess. I did offer to send the author of that article a banana plant last year, though.

Here is a page I created from another site that used to have this online, showing how to open a pomegranate. Works pretty well, though doing it under a bowl of water is a little neater. by Nantana Nagavajara* January (http://www.chestnuts.us/images/OpeningPoms.htm). Also, here are some photos I took of some pomegranates as part of a project working with a friend and Dr. Levin in Israel: Purely Pomegranates (http://www.PurelyPoms.com/PhotoIndex.htm)

Kylie, I don't know how to legally share the magazine with you since it's copyrighted and it isn't published on the CRFG web site, but I downloaded my electronic copy at https://rcpt.yousendit.com/601825873/f33f667258ed32c0fe79bd2bf48831ba (if you like the publication you might want to join the CRFG, the fee with electronic delivery of their publication is very modest).

Cheers,

Harvey
