hello,
I'm pretty new to banana trees. I was given a tree from a friend last fall with three pups.
This was my first season to grow and am really happy with them.

I seperated them into pots and kept them over the winter and planted 2 of them in the yard and left 2 in pots for the deck.

Here's a pic of the mother from july 23rd. When I kept it in the house the leaves were too big so I kept cutting them off.(also to induce pupping)
as of right now it has 7 pups.

I'll post a more recent pic soon.

Does it induce pupping, or slow growth, since it can't take in any sun?
Just a thought...looks GREAT now!

I read somewhere about cutting leaves will cause it to pup more.
None of the other trees had any pups at all. Yet they were small enough to manage. I left the leaves on them all winter.

As far as slow growth it was hard to tell since they were growing inside under artificial light. who knows?

Here is a pic of it 5 wks after the previous pic (Today)
I used the dr pepper can for a size spec.

If you cage it up this winter with a tomato cage and some leaves...the stems should live. Otherwise, youll end up with a corm, or nothing. Hopefully youll have some spare mulch to throw around the base for it.

Those pups have grown fast.

I have to go easy on the mulch or the cats think it's a cat box.

I'm gong to dig it up this winter and pot the smaller pups.

Yes the pups are growing really fast. We have some good sandy soil here and they seem to love it!
