Hi all,
We are looking for answers to the following:
1) What is the symetry of the banana? Do all bananas have the same symetry? Is symetry the result of climate?
2) Do bananas always grow upside down? That is pointing skyward. Do all bananas grow this way.
3) Are the flesh and seeds of a wild banana edible? Do all wild bananas have seeds? Do culinary/cultivated bananas have seeds?
Got to split,

Hi RBC, to answer your questions, varied, no, no, no, no, some are, most do, not usually.
As a general rule, most edible bananas are seedless and most wild bananas are seeded. Bananas come in all different shapes, sizes, colors, tastes and grow in different configurations. Visit the Bananas Wiki for more info.

Welcome Banana Being! Please give us some information of yourself and your banana and/or other plants. Also, your location.
Moved this thread to Membership Introductions Forum per Scot's suggestion.
I agree with Scot's responses. I would like to add that the pulp of most, if not all, seeded bananas, strictly speaking, are edible. None are toxic, so it would be a question of taste. And some are even very sweet. The question for the consumer is whether he/she has the patience to bite into the fruit and separate the pulp from the seeds in order to eat the pulp and expel the seeds. Kind of like eating a Sugar Apple, Annona Squamosa, only the seeds of the banana is so much harder than the Sugar Apple's. So one should exercise care when chewing on the banana with seeds.
As with non-seeded bananas, there are varieties that may be eaten out of hand, and others that need to be cooked or they may be too difficult to digest.
A member from Japan, Asacomm, has pictures of M. Basjoo fruits. He reports that the pulp is sweet.
