Hello,
I came across this website while brousing thru Google. I bought a Plumeria at the store last year and have had it out all summer but the leaves keep turning brown. I found this was from sun burn so I put it under my patio. What are some do's and don'ts for growing here in the desert? My pot is 10 inches. It just started blooming but the flowers are only as big as a quarter or smaller. Help and thanks in advance!

I have my plummies out on the patio in full sun over the summer, but I'm not in Vegas. We have some members in that fair city; I don't know if they also grow plumeria. Welcome!

Hi Trish, I live in Las Vegas and haven't tried to grow my Plumeria seeds here yet. Damaclese is another member living here and has said that it is just too hot to grow them without considerable shade. I would suggest just a few hours of morning sun, then dappled sun to shade in the afternoon.
We will all have to get together sometime. Do you grow any bananas?
Glad you are here.

Trish welcome to the org.! I've not tried to grow Plumeria here in Vegas. But I know my roses produce very small flowers in the heat of the summer but when fall returns the flowers get a lot larger perhaps Plumeria is affected by the heat and the same way. I would try tryed inside and see if the flowers don't get larger. Keeping non desert plants going during the summer here is a very tricky balancing between watering or over watering feeding or overfeeding. I have found that if you want to grow non desert plants you have to really watch them closely and look for signs of stress and take action immediately. Plants can go downhill here in a matter of hours. For example I have a Passaflora that was perfectly fine at 8:00 AM when I came home from work at two it was completely burned Up and dead all the way to the ground it had been watered that morning it was vigorous and healthy looking so what happened.! To this day I have no idea. In the 12 years I've been living here sometimes plans just die.
