Has anyone had any luck storing Basjoo and SDC corms bareroot in their basement over the winter?

I have a dark room that stays about 60F all winter long and I'm wondering if I'd have better luck storing the corms bareroot in that room. I'm trying to get as much head start on pseudostem next spring, so I want to dig all the basjoo's up and store them with my SDC in the basement.

They both stored poorly for me. Pot up your SDC for winter or you can say Adios to them. Cavendish varieties do not store well.

Basjoo should stay in your ground with some protection.

Me too Kylie. My SDC obviously didn't like my basement! I'm pretty convinced that if you care to keep any stem (or even the corm for that matter) of Cavendish types...don't even think about bare-rooting them.

How do I keep my cats from eating the hell out of it? Also, my indoor light levels aren't that great...

I ran into the same problem last fall with my large SDC. My solution was to pot it up in a big pot and put it in the bedroom. My house isn't very warm and i didn't hardly water it at all (maybe once? all winter)... It and its pup both made it and are doing fine...

I've stored both under my crawl space in the past. Musa basjoo dessicated quite a bit, but the corm was fine and it grew well after planting out. However, it was a fairly large corm with 2 pups! Smaller plants don't have as good of a chance as larger plants do.

SDC I have had mixed results with. I've managed to keep it alive in a large pot for several years now, storing it in the crawl space.

I quess it goes dormant? Do you keep it under lights, or is this just a well lit room. I'm still not sure how to handle mine. I have a super dwarf Musa Novak,
this won't be a problem because I can keep it by my sliding doors. The Ensete
Maurelli and two Siam Ruby is my concern. I have a spare room but, will have to set up lights if it has to be bright. I would appreciate your advice.

No lights, just a window. I have to go dig mine up this weekend and bring it inside. Really not looking forward to digging up such a huge plant!
