I spotted this before the leaf ever completely unrolled. I'm thinking it's probably a nutrient deficiency as the overall leaf color is somewhat yellow, but I'll be keeping an eye on it.

It looks sick. You better send it to me to place into quarantine! ;)

I would have to agree with you. There are a ton of Bird of Paradise around town with leaves that look exactly like that, because they are planted and neglected. They look pretty good for being unhealthy plants, though.

Is it a neopolitan ice cream?

Looks good Brent. I would have thought the plant would show signs of varigation from day one though. Unless it had recently been planted out into a different soil in the garden from the potting mix that it was in while in the pot.

There is a variegated Ice Cream out there but that's probably not it.
I've seen the real deal though.

Maybe it's just a sport. The rest of the leaf looks good from what I can see in the picture. It's hard to say. But it doesn't look like a nutritional deficiency to me. Perhaps something has damaged part of the corm in that area where that part of the leaf was grown?. Maybe even just some sort of temporary condition at the time of that particularly leafs development. Are the new leaves coming out normal?.

I got this plant back in the spring from TTP, Fred and it was very healthy. It had to sit out for a while before I was able to make a new bed for it. All I really did was strip up the turf and add some composted cow manure to the bed, planted it, and mulched. It has been a steady grower ever since. I also have my Hua Moa and a Cal. Gold in this bed. The Hua Moa has been looking a bit yellow as well, though no variegated-looking spots. This is the first leaf on the IC that has shown this. I really don't think it is variegation but I wanted to see what everyone's opinion was. We'll see what the next leaf looks like. It should be unrolled by the weekend.

I would add some cealated iron to the bed.

Bananaman88:

If I stumbled upon a new genus by accident, I'll happily take credit for it....Musa Fred sounds great to me!

Seriously, though, the mama plant and all the others I have are not variegated, so you're probably looking at a deficiency of some sort. I haven't had one look like that.

I'm almost 100% sure it is a nutrient deficiency. I just wanted to post it for people to see. All other leaves are normal other than being a bit yellow. I'll be adding some fertlizer soon.
