I have four fruit baring trees and took pictures of them in the hope someone can advise what kind of banana I have here and if it is edible or what?

I took a look at your gallery and my vote goes for Orinoco. A closeup of the flowers will help but good chance its the popular banana from Venezuela. Yes, they are edible and taste good. Just wait till they ripen before attempting to consume otherwise it will taste oddly tart.

Thanks but how do you know when ripe......my understanding is that bananas ripen once cut off the tree.....

If they are orinoco - yellow is not enough - wait until they are soft and puddingy - then they will be delicious, but of course being ripe, they last for no time at all! Hey - nothing is perfect!

I'm no expert, so this is really just a question, not a dispute. Those bananas have a lot more curve in them than my Orinocos get, and they seem to point more upward than mine. My bananas are pretty straight and stick out at almost a right angle. Is this fruit shape normal for Orinoco? May bananas have been fairly small, so maybe this is relevant.
