Hi everyone,
I saw a Red Leaf today it was about 6ft tall and pstem was several inches around. Tag said zone 10 & 11. minimum temp 40 degrees. I was in my Celica
or I would have brought it home. I was thinking about going back in the suv and getting it. I know I must be losing it but, I keep thinking I can give it a good home. Maybe in the garage under lights? Or, maybe dig it out for the winter and store the pstem. OK experts. Is there hope?
Thanks Raggedy

I have Siam Ruby so it's not that one. Tag just said red leaf banana cold tolerant to 40degrees. I don't know why it's called a red leaf. Only back side of leaf is red tinted. Actual leaves are green. I'm thinking I may go get it anyway. It's got a real fat pstem and some pretty big leaves. There are more varieties of banana than I could ever imagined. The more I read, the more I read. Still don't know enough.

I think you're right. I can always save the pstem if it's too big to keep indoors
and replant it in the spring. Think I will go for it.
Thanks for twisting my arm!!!

Yeah!!! I bought it. It's bigger than I thought. I measured the pstem, just for kicks. It's 25" around and over six ft tall. Card says red leaved. In hard to read small print it says Ensete Ventricosum Maurelii. It took contacts and a magnifier to read this. Card also reads 12 to 15 foot psuedo trunk. I didn't see this til now. Hope this can be cut and stored for the winter. Is it possible?
Anyone know??????? I just repotted it. I will post some pics tomorrow when I can put it back outside. Thanks guys for encouraging this wacko!

Yes you should be able to overwinter it ok, I say should as I have only overwintered my Ensete Ventricosum Maurelii once, & i didn't have a big climate change from VA to NC. Just do the normal routine you would for any other banana's you bring in for the winter.
