Well the Basjoo that I've been trying to nurse back to health, fertilizing, spraying with fungicide and letting it dry out in the warm weather met a new nemesis today.

I had cut off all the rotting leaves and there was one new one coming up.
However, the neighborhood squirrel decided to go digging in the pot (on my 4th floor terrace!) and had a wonderful time by the looks of it. I don't know how it did it but it managed to split the stem in two. No more new leaf. No nothing. :0493:

I have 2 small pups that are starting but don't seem to be doing much.

There is also what looks to be a large pup starting to develop off the base of the plant. No leaves or anything but somethings going on. Just the beginnings of a growth of some sort.

I'd just repotted it, but now I'm wondering if I should plant it in the yard for a month or so until I have to dig it up for the winter. That would maybe give it a better chance of getting healthy before nap time as I suspect the roots in the pot are too damp, even though I mixed sand in with the soil. I don't want to lose the pups!

Alternatively I was thinking of leaving it in the pot and not watering it as much and then putting it in the garage in October when it gets cold. (Though last night was fairly chilly!)

I'm open to suggestions!

I guess this is the squirrels way of getting back at me for putting chili powder on the lawn that it loves to dig up.

Squirrels are a real pain inna rear! I have lil oak trees popping up in all ofmy plants from the acorns they buried in them . Nearly all of my pots have been excavated.
This year, When it gets cold enough, there'll be squirrel gumbo for sure .

Moth balls
Nicotine sulphate
Fake Owl

Good luck!
