I just received these 4 aroids from a good friend that wanted to see what I could do with them. First off, I sure would like to know what I have, so if anyone can pipe in as to what they think they are, I would appreciate the help. I have them listed as #1 thru #4...

Okay, there they are!!! I am assuming, which I am probably wrong in doing so, that they are all 4 in the Alocasia family. Anyone have a clue as to what they are!?!?!?

Hey Randy- The 4th one looks like the Alocasia "Lime Zinger". The 1st one actually looks a lot like my Colocasia "Red Stem" although it also looks violet. Not sure about the others, although the 3rd one looks a lot like a Colocasia "Elapio" (or "Milky Way"). Nice looking plants. I love EE's.

Thanks, for your input, Howard. I did get a response from Eric who lives in Orlando and works at their botanical gardens. Here is his input on what they are, which after doing a little double checking on the internet and looking at the plants a little closer, I think he is dead on except the 4th one. Lime Zinger is a little too chartruese for this one but still not sure what it is. I appreciate your input and hope the best for you with your ee's. BTW, I do have Elepio and love it. Can't wait to get it a little larger, as I just got mine a month or so ago...

Eric's ids:
<TABLE width="90%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top>1. Xanthosoma violacea

2. Alocasia plumbea

3. Alocasia wentii 'Variegata'

4. maybe A. macrorrhizos or A. odora ?
</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Now that I look at it and see what he ID'ed, it definitely is wentii "Variegata". Really pretty plant. I fell in love with my Elapio; just can't get it to grow more than 4 leaves less than a foot in size.

Here's my little Hilo Beauty between a Black Magic and a lantana. Really pretty plant, but wish I had the Hilo Bold as it's much more noticeable.

Your Elepaio will grow larger and more quickly if you grow it as a true aquatic

Trouble is that I'm running out of pond surface. It's a small pond of about 800 gallons with 2 tropical and one hardy water lily, a dwarf papyrus and a giant Cyperus, a lotus and a Thalia delbata, along with a constantly reducing number of hyacinth. There are 10 sarassa and calico goldfish and some black mollies also, but it's getting harder to see them.:ha:

Pondside sealed tub gardens are always a plus
