any comments?although i didn't read the hole list its kinda a hard format to fallow i think theres some listings under the Ventricosum that could be disputed but! I'm by no means an expert gab15 would be the best person to have look at it. the study of Ensete hasn't had the Attn that Musa has and theres still room for more definitive study. chessmen did his research i believe in the 60's and there was some more done in the 90 but thats only two studies and people keep coming out with contradicting thoughts/scientific papers some one is going to have to do a comparative genetic Asa in order to put all this speculation to rest how ever as i stated earlier I'm no expert and there may be studies going on that I'm not aware of.

Just to be clear, that is a list of all published names, not all valid names. Most of them have been rejected on the grounds of being identical with previously published species, too vague with incomplete descriptions, or being edible bananas (which have their own naming system and do not use Linnean binomials). Read through the list carefully to note the accepted and valid names. There are also many new species and varieties not on that list.

I've seen this list before when I was searching the internet. Thanks, Gabe, for clarifying the page.

This link was interesting, but not for the list. The persons compiling the list were:
(1) David R. Constantine. An avid poster on the Plant-TC newsgroup (http://plant-tc.cfans.umn.edu/listserv/) 10 years ago. At that time, he listed himself as owner: Constantine Consultancy and Agrotrading - A U.K. based horticultural consultancy specialising in plant propagation and plant tissue culture. This company and its web site appears to have vanished around 2002.
(2) Gerda Rossel. One of several editors who compiled anthropology monographs (collections of articles published as a book) for the school of Asian, African, and Amerindian Studies (CNWS) at University of Leiden about 10 years ago. It is unclear whether she was a faculty, graduate student, or staff member. She also had a book published in 1998 by CNWS titled "Taxonomic-Linguistic Study of Plantain in Africa" which discusses native words used for bananas in Africa. The book received an award in 2000 from The Society for Economic Botany (http://www.econbot.org/). This 1,000 member society is comprised mainly of anthropologists who study "the historical interaction of human beings and plants".
