I have my second flower from a Grain nain on a different matte. The first one flowered in the fall of last year. Hard as I tried I was not able to get them to survive the winter. I should be able to try the ones flowering now. The first hand has twenty five fingers. Six hands are visible now and looks as if there will be more. This to me is a lot of bananas.

Questions:
I have not done anything different for this plant than any of my other plant's and have better results. Is this a normal bunch for this banana? Will the bunches get better with the daughter and granddaughter on this plant?

From what I read they are the same as the ones sold in the grocery store but taste better when you grow theme yourself. Is this just because of the satisfaction from growing them yourself or do they generally taste better?

I believe I read that these ripen quickly. Is this after they plump or from flower or to time to eat?

I will try to post pics but don't know if I will be successful, if not they are in my gallery.

Thanks in advance for your response.

Grand Nain is the chosen commercial variety because it makes huge bunches of fruit, its normal for them to make a lot. If you can keep the mat alive and healthy, the following bunches will be larger than the first one. They can taste different being home grown because commercial bananas are picked when only 3/4 formed to keep the skin thick enough for shipping, whereas homegrown you can leave them on the plant to fully develop.

Gabe thanks now I am really excited. Your answer is exactly what I was hoping. I cant wait to try these. I have another matte with a daughter of a plant that flowered last year. That plant is bigger then the one that's flowering. I cant wait to see what it puts out. I might be able to produce something like the members in Florida with this plant.

Do the fruit grow to the stage of ripening quicker then others?
