After you click the response button, and the message window appears, type in your message as you would normally.
When you come to a point where you want insert your picture, go back to your gallery and open the picture that you want to insert.
Click the window that says, "Code for Bulletin Boards", and right click the window again to highlight the URL, then click the copy button.
Open your reply window again and right click the point where you want to show your photo, and click paste. The URL will be displayed.
Go down to and click the review button to review your reply before submitting. You will then see the photo that you just pasted.
It helps to have one window open for your reply, and another for your photo gallery. That way, you do not have to be click your back button so many times to get back and forth.
Hope this helps.

I'm kinda thinking it could be the variety 'Mysore', but keep posting pictures, especially when the fruit starts to take shape.
I thought it was a Musa 'Red Iholene' becasue of that red flower thing...do they all have those big red/maroon flowers?

From what we have learned several are very similar, and some have there own look.

Yea, like D/T said, a lot of them look alike. Keep us posted and we'll(Gabe) can give you a for sure answer.
I really appreciate it. This board has been great.
Do you guys think from the picture that the bananas are edible? I know there is a type...Masu Basjoo and it bears fruit but it's not edible. I was wondering if I had an edible type or not. Can you tell if it is somehow?

It has a slight pink line down the middle of the leaf.

Jen, yours is definitely an edible type. I looked closer at the flowers and it looks like its very possibly 'Mysore', but it's best to keep the options open until the fruit forms and we know for sure.
Okay you guys seriously ROCK! Thank you so much for the info.
Gabe I have been searching the net on "Mysore" and it sure does look similar. The leaves don't have red or pink on the bottom but they might be talking about the flower leaves I don't know??? Anyway, I really appreciate all the help.
Paula your yard is GEORGEOUS! I want to jump in the jacuzzi and grab a glass of wine. :) I'm embarrased posting my poor trees shoved in a corner with a trash can and a play house next to it. I'm in southern california with a tiny yard so I'm making the best of it and I have two small children. I keep looking at all the plants and yards on this website and I'm so inspired to go and start digging. :)
anyway, thanks to everyone who responded. I'm so happy about my bananas! I will post pictures when they fill in more.
Really, thanks to everyone who posted I appreciate all the help. I have learned so much about bananas in the last two days. I'm off to find a spot in my yard for more! ;)

The thing that really jumped out to me was those nice beautiful red underside of the leafs...nice plant!
The flower is a beautiful maroon and the underside of the flower petals or whatever they are called are a beautiful dark red. I just don't know if that is what they are talking about. The description for mysore said the leaves have a pink tint on the underside of the leaves and I was thinking it meant banana tree leaves. sorry I sound so confused but I am. :) Maybe they were meaning the leaves of the flower. Anyway, it is so pretty and I am really enjoying it and now it has fruit. Too cool! I'm so excited.
Oh and Paula, you ask how tall it was. The tip of the leaves are about 13 feet up but they could be a little higher becsue it is bending a tad because of the weight of the flower I guess. Anyway approx. 13 feet.

Jen,
Banana plant height is measured from the soil to the base of the newest leaf. The upright leaf is not a good place to measure because after they are fully open, they bend down. So, the height referred to in this case is the height of the "trunk", which is called the "pseudostem".

Yeah they were refering to the underneath side of the leafs, not the flower, which is pretty, but easily confused with other edible banana flowers which are also purple.
I told you I am new at this. hee hee Sorry!
Okay, so I went out with the tape measure and measured exactly what Chong described and it's 7 and 1/2 feet. :) wow that is a huge difference. hee hee Okay, thanks for your patience.

Here is some more info for the ID'ing of my plant...
When Gabe said it might be a Mysore I started reading and looking at pictures on the net. I kept reading pink on the underside of the leaf but I would go look outside and they were green. Today after Tropicallvr's post I went out and actually flipped the leaf over and when the sun hit it all I saw was a pink leaf. I kept checking them and sure enough they have a pink tint that is very noticable in the sunlight. Some are very, very pink when I flip them over and actually look at them! Sorry I am so new I'm not giving you all the info I kinda just jumped in and I'm learning as I go. Anyway, I took a picutre of the leaf and posted it in my gallery along with some more pictures of the fruit and flowers. Every morning there is more fruit visible. Thanks for all your patience and help, this is a total learning curve for me.

Jen,
First of all, up to now, I've not met any stupid person on this board. Although, I can honestly say that there are a lot of us that may be ignorant. Take it easy on yourself.
I just looked at you picture again, and I have a question. When measured the height of your plant, did you measure to the base of the fruit trunk? Because that is where you should measure since from thence the trunk turned downwards and will no longer get any taller. Judging from the wooden fence nearby, and assuming that the fence is 6 feet high, your plant would be between 9 and 10 feet.
I uploaded a better picture so you can see the angle better. Yes, the fence is 6ft and the lowest leaf is right about that height. I'm re-reading your post and you said the newest leaf and that would not be the lowest. Ohhhhhhh that is about two feet up. So I guess that would be about 9ft. Check out the pic and tell me what you think. I really can read...and use a tape measure. :(
I don't think I'm too hard on myself I think you are too nice. :) I say this as I go out to measure for the THIRD TIME!
Jen
Okay, I'm back...I'm gonna revise my height and say 9ft 3inches. :) hee hee unless you are counting the big shoot that the flower is coming out of..is the newest leaf? That is gonna add another 6 to 7 inches. If someone else was home I could make them hold the tape measure and I could do it and take a picture. I think you will figure it out from the newest picture.
thanks again. I really don't want to be giving out the wrong info and I'm lovign that I am learning all this stuff. I hope to get a couple more plants soon but I want to know more before I do so I make a good choice and give them great care.

I am just laughing as I picture you trying to measure it and the tape measure keeps collapsing in the breeze. You will have confirmation soon though, and then it will be worthwhile. Best of luck on your first banana fruit!

Ooo-ooh! Jen,
I saw your last photo, you need to prop that plant of yours, or it might get uprooted!
Check out #10 in this link. I do not recommend the "bottle and wire method" :
How to Grow Banana Plants - wikiHow (http://www.wikihow.com/Grow-Banana-Plants)
There are threads on this board that have various support designs using PVC pipe. I am just now not able to access the site because I probably have too many windows open. You can do the search for "Supporting fruiting banana plant".
Chong
I was having trouble getting on the site too.
That was a great site. Now I'm all stressed out about it falling. It does look pretty pinched at the branch with the flower. My hubby will be home soon and I have a project for him. :) Thanks Chong!
Chironex, it was VERY funny becasue it wasn't just me I was outside with my 5 year old and 2 year old. The both wanted to help. My 2 year old just picked all my blueberries when I wasn't looking so I was fussing at her and fussing at my son to hold the darn tape measure. My poor neihbors. It was pretty funny but very frustrating.
Okay, I'm off to stake them because I would be so devistated if they fell.

Jen, thanks and I envy your plant.
I have been waiting for mine to bloom.
It is about 6' plus that is why I asked.
I would like mine to be the edible type,
but I love the look of it anyway.
Good luck, and thank you.

Jen, it sounds like you did a good job of measuring it, but just in case there are any doubts left, this picture shows where you should measure to to determine the height of the plant.

Oh man you guys just get cooler by the day. :)
Final measurement 9ft 10 inch. GEEZ I guess my plant is not a dwarf.
