These pics were taken June 27, 2008.
The pics in the first post were taken just today, although the bunch was cut 2 days ago.
The first few hands were turning yellow before I chopped the plant down. The next few turned yellow over the past two days.

I realized that my youth... was my youth. lol
You should have seen my wife try to pick it up!
http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=12155&size=1 (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=12155)
she was eventually able to lift it!
But she smashed some of them when she put them down... good times!

WOW! Boy am I homesick! The last home we stayed in, in the Philippines, we had 4 big mats of Saba, 3 mats of Praying Hands, and 3 mats of Butuan.

congrats jarred!!! how old was your saba?

About two years.
I actually had two Saba bloom, one was from TC and the other (the bunch in this thread) was from a corm I bought from a member here. The TC fruits never plumped up, very disappointing. The plant got quite raggedy and was just about to fall over, I waited as long as possible and they never plumped up.
These obviously did though and these were from the corm I grew out. fwiw
I will take pics of the measly bloom I cut from the other Saba, its still out in the yard.
This plant was still bright green when I cut them and was doing great. They were turning yellow so it was time. Was really interesting doing the TC and the corm side by side. Not so scientific, just an experience of mine.

Hey! What the heck. Give them some competition. Take a picture with your shirt off! At least we know that the bananas are home grown.

It is not the first time that poor performance has been reported from small corms, esp. TC. I recently received a Dwarf Namwa TC and I'm hoping to "grow the corm" as much as possible. The plant is in a #3 pot with a 40% shade cloth hood. Also, I'm feeding it a 1/2 cup of 3-3-3 per month. Well see what happens -- it might take a generation or two before developing some sizeable corms.

Congratulations, Jarred. Very nice bunch of bananas there that reminds me of the Banana Boat Song - did you drink rum all day after your harvest??? ;)

That's one thing about the nematode quarantine in California: it makes it harder for us to buy something other than TC plants. I think my little TC Raja Puri was about 18 months old before it died in the freeze 18 months ago before ever having the chance to bloom. But it's pup is now in bloom, thankfully, and I have several pups. So it does require more patience that starting out with a large corm.

WAY TO GO! Jarred they look awsom keep up the good work that fruit looks good enugh to eat LOL and thanks for the pics By the way the IC you sent me are doing grate there about 3' tall now Huge leafs

on a seprit note all of my TC are preforming porly in conpairison to the naturaly grown corms the TC's just grow slower and are genraly more easaly stressed out i know i live in a prity exstream climet but i think unles its just sothing i cant get naturaly grown im going to pass on TC from here on out

Those are awesome, Jarred! I like the pic that shows pretty much the full height of the plants, too. I've always read that Sabas grew large, but those bad boys are TREES! Nice!

Hey MediaHound, that's a great bunch of Bananas, good job. Those Sabas are quite impresive, I have one about 10 ft. tall and the leaves look like surf boards, he he.
Cheers

In my last post in The Banana in Syrup thread, I said there was more to come. Turon was my next recipe. Only It would be better if I were to give a pictorial on how to do it.

Tell me you're going to Ty Ty for the pictures....:ha: I'm sure one of B.org's members has a comparatively priced Saba pup, but much larger than Ty Ty's TC's...
