I know lots of people including myself have been dieing to get one of these. I ordered one a while back from a guy on ebay. It was a small plant, but had lots of roots, impeccably shipped, and is doing great. That person has 3 more for sale right, so i wanted to share the news:

Thanks, I am tempted, but do have concerns about some of these small sellers, wondering if what they are selling are properly labeled. The seller only has one other banana and it does not have a name given, so at least he doesn't assign a name to something which is unknown. I wonder if these are pups or tissue culture. If I recall correctly, AgriStarts doesn't carry such a line but it seemed to only show up at Logee's. Can anybody add to this to help clear up my uncertainty?

Yeah I agree would be good to know. I remember back when I was looking EVERYWHERE for them there were a couple of other places that listed them on their site but said they wouldn't have any for probably about a year.

Well, like a moron, I bid on one of these and won the d**n thing! I don't know why I bid on it as I really don't have the room. I guess I'll be the guinea pig and see if it's what the seller claims it to be. I haven't heard from him/her yet, so hopefully I will soon.
Rosebud, I curse the day you joined the org! Just kidding...I just shouldn't have bid on it. Oh well. It is another nanner to try after all. I'm not that upset.

LOL, Brent. I came close to bidding a few times but showed some restraint this time, but only because I've got several other bananas I have bought recently that already need to be planted. Good luck! :)

I saw it and held back, but the guy has been very kind to me in the past. Seems like a straight-shooter. But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.
I think the others he is selling are Orinoco's from the pics, which he says are of his bananas and not copied from elsewhere.
See if anyone agrees. BTW, he is selling some big corms for these, I may get one anyhow - like I need it, right?

No need to condemn anyone, I was the first moron to buy from this guy. He appears to be honest, although not very savvy in regards to identifying bananas. And he doesn't claim to be. Anyway read my post regarding my experience with this guy. Particularly, since it took almost 14 days for the second set of two corms because he sent them via Parcel Post instead of his advertised Priority Mail method. However, I will repeat, to his credit he sent me vere large corms as I requested. I just wished that he'd asked me for the extra $5 it would have cost to go Priority Mail.
Here is the post and follow ups. Notice that the pots in the first photo are 14" diameter:

So, there, I claim to be the first guinea pig.

Well I did purchase from him a few months ago and the shipping on mine was fantastic. The plant was very tiny and it was my first banana. I think I overwatered it in the pot. I put it in the ground in hopes that it will make a come back. It's shooting out leaves like crazy now. Still only a 1' tall so I'm sure you guys can't tell from that if it is a lady finger or not.
As for the other bananas... he does say that they are Orinoco but he also added that he only thinks that because someone told him that's what they are. He said he's had them for a long time and so doesn't remember.
What did you guys buy the "lady finger" or the "orinoco"?
PS You know there is always room for one more naner! ;)

I bought 2 D. Lady Fingers in March, and 2 DLF again in April this year. I didn't want to get any Orinocos because they are too tall for my 16-ft high greenhouse.

So in the end, do you believe these are DLFs?

I am the one who actually asked him what they were. I then added, "...they appear to be Orinocos" so he told me thanks for identifying them!!!! Good grief, it was only a guess. But I like the guy, so I am getting one of the "Orinoco" corms and a Dwarf Lady Finger. What the heck, it's a banana, isn't it?

DLF is what I bid on and I certainly hope that is what I get as I already have Orinoco. I really wasn't upset at all, that was just for show. I just know I don't really need another banana right now. But I agree with Rosebud...always room for one more banana. By the way, my wife would not agree! However, she didn't seem upset at all when I told her that I "accidentally" won another banana.

Well, my Dw. Lady Finger finally arrived yesterday. I took almost 2 weeks for me to get it as the seller had some sort of problem with his PayPal account. No big deal there, not exactly his fault. It arrived in pretty good shape other than the leaves. An "instuctions" page was included on how to grow it. The paper stated that all leaves would be cut and removed for shipping purposes. I wish that is what had been done. Instead, the leaves were basically wadded up and "wrapped" in newspaper and look horrible. I'm going to try to leave them for now if possible to help get the plant going. Overall height was about 12"14", I'd say and it does look to at least be a dwarf of some sort based on the spacing of the leaves. I'll probably keep it potted at least until next spring. Once it gets to looking a little better I'll post some photos of it.

Wow we had totally different experiences! There were only three leaves on my plant and was very small but the plant was in perfect condition! Sorry to hear that it was so damaged! Hopefully it takes off for you soon!
